Best Beaches - Zanzibar

A friend are I are trying to work out where to stay in Zanzibar.

We want to chill out, but not feel totally isolated. What area is best? North, South, East or West? We'd like to be by a beautiful beach which we could swim in and not be too worried about the tide. We would prefer to do it on a budget.

Any recommendations for guest houses / B&Bs / cheap hotels? We are mid 20s so we're happy to go out and about but equally we want to be able to chill on the beach. Any recommendations appreciated, thanks!

Nungwi has the best beaches with no tidal effects and people in mid 20's it suits the best as lot of options around.

South East Coast! Nungwi and Kendwa are really busy. If you want to be on quiet beach, but close enough to some action, take Jambiani (Garden Beach Bungalows, Demla Beach Lodge for budget/ Blue Oyster or Mango Beachhouse for mid-range) - nice beach, but close enough to Paje where the kiters and the party peeps are. Friday evening at Jambo Bar in Paje is a must!
