I will be arriving at ZNZ and then travelling (probably by taxi) to Nungwi.
Having read all the reports of bogus taxis in Dar, I would like to ask - is this also the case for Zanzibar?
I understand an official taxi has a red number plate with yellow letters and numbers. Is this correct?
Is there an official taxi desk at ZNZ airport, as per many other cities?
Your advice would be appreciated.
ZNZ airport is *very* small. I don't think it has such a desk.
Why not get your hotel to arrange the transfer, then you know its a bona fide car, and you don't have to battle through the scrum of touts offering their services?
You may be able to get a "Hotel Transfer Minibus" directly from the airport. Usually around US$10 but you share with others. These are usually arranged from your tonetown Hotel. The unofficial taxi drivers are very clever and will wear "taxi" vests at the airport to fool you before taking you to their private car.
Official Taxis? The ones with the four serviceable tyres!

Commercial vehicles, such as taxis, will have white license plates with black numbers, private vehicles will have yellow plates with black numbers.
For Zanzibar is Yellow Numbers with red plate
