Riu Garopa, Santa Maria, Sal - Cape Verde |
Hi, I've just got back from the Riu Garopa in Sal, Cape Verde this morning. We had a fantastic stay in this superb 5 star hotel. There are some write ups that do not do the place any justice so therefore I intend to write a full review later, but if anyone has any questions I will do my best to answer them. |

Hi glad you enjoyed your stay we did in Feb cant beleive people put bad feedback at the same time we where their, We could not fault anything at all ate too much drank too and both had early 40th birthdays which lasted two weeks. Met some fab people a farmer from Lincoln''''' And a man gave us a sun bed one day because their were none left and we became good friends especially drinking ones on a night. Hi Steve and Sue. we were very lucky to see the Grease show twice much to the mens delight. I bet they havenot had a barcadi and coke like the ones they had in the Garopa since getting home.
What was the weather like then and was there much to see and do. Not sure where to go next year but saw a write up on Cape Verde Islands.

Hi Jenbemb, I was there the same time as you, but like alot of other travellers you must have gone to the other RIU Garopa. My self and wife were desperate to leave the Garopa we went to after 3 days, we tried to get flights home we tried to get another hotel, you name it we tried it. Can you tell me where the Garopa is that every one has been to. The one we went to was attached to a sister hotel called the Funana. and consisted of poor food, cobweb clad Chandeliers in the reception, screaming kids all over the place, a swimming pool with tiles dropping off and noisy ignorant staff. athetic panto style entertainment, with bedsheets hung up to project the words and a few pretty pictures on. It may be if this is the same hotel you are in denial of a good holiday hotel or you have had some terrible holidays in the past. what youn need is a fortnight at the Jolie Ville in luxor Egypt and when you come back then write and tell me what the Garopa was about
JUSTENKARLSON. let us know when and where, you are planning to go on your next holiday,so we can all avoid having the misfortune of booking the same time!no offence intended.

Justen, obv you are far too posh for the garopa and probably minted. So not sure why you went in the first place. Good luck, Have fun.

You must have had some dreadful holidays in the past Jenbemb if you enjoyed it here, I would like to know why people like this hotel, and where its states its a 5* Hotel the 5* is only given by the hotel itself the English travel pweople only give it 4* (The likes of Thomson TUI) Can I ask you if you liked the Entertainment at night and why Can I ask you if you enjoyed the same food day in and day out. Can I ask you if you thought the hotels Beach was cleaner that the one in Santa Maria near to the Pier. Can I ask you if you enjoyed the food not being warm, or the fight you ahd to get any at the breakfast table Can I ask if your room was quiet and that the morning staff did not wake you up Can I ask you if you where one of the Brits who played cards in the entertainment area to rid the Boredom Can I ask you if you do not mind cockroaches all over or the cobweb clad chandeliers above you headn the reception area bar. Can I ask you if you did not mind paying 9 euros for a computor image photo from the hotel photographer, or 12 euros for a piece of wood with Cabo Verde written on it and a magnet stuck with glue on the back that I suppose would look great on someones fridge Can I ask you why a 5* haotel has an old sheet hung up in the Barracuda Bar to project the words to karaoke on instead of a proper screen. Can I ask if you enjoyed the Grease night with a black girl in a blond wig miming to Sandy or a black guy without a wig miming to John Travolta. and did you notice the "woman" with the big Adams Apple who just loved to dance with the womans husbands and then give them a sloppy kiss afterwards, Lovely. How did you get on with the wine, sorry paint stripper, did you enjoy that? Did you enjoy the coffee from the cabo verde and the african nights that had the distinct taste of pipe cleaner We were fortunate and for our second week we stayed in Santa Maria at a three Star hotel on the beach, great wine great food very intimate and cosy we would sit and laze in peace during the day, with no boom boom boom from the music boxes of the staff, total relaxation, and total peace, coupled with staff that were efficient and helpful. I will never get over the fact that i subjected my wife to the Garopa Hotel, so i would be intrested in knowing what you found so good. This is nothing more than a list of questions, and I appreciate that people have different views on things, we tried to get a flight home after 3 day but it was impossible. I do not want you to take offence to this, but would just like to know your highlights and the things you found to be excellent.
Justenkarlsson I was there in February and experienced none of these problems. The entertainment was not up to much, but then again, it never is at hotels. Never noticed any cobwebs, but I didn't go there to inspect chandelliers. I saw a couple of cockroaches, but no more than in Mallorca where I live, they are always about in hot countries. The food was excellent, always at least twenty choices, OK some of the choices were the same each day, but do you know enough different meals to provide twenty choices twice a day for a fortnight? Breakfast was excellent and never had a problem finding a table. If you are sorry you subjected your wife to this hotel, maybe you could consult her on the next holiday before you go. I will not claim it was five star luxury, but then again nor was the price. Get real.

Hi we went to this hotel in feb it was brilliant apart form the saga people and foreigners who think they own the spot Read about the place and what the hotel has to offer too many over 65s going and spoiling it and the others
Massey i totally agree with you, i am sorry that justenkarlson comes from Norfolk as i do, we don't all whinge about nothing, alright there were a few nights when the entertainment was not brilliant but most nights it was very good, the food well if you can not find something different to eat every night you need glasses, and the staff, well they were so friendly. I would go back tommorrow and the cockroaches we did see a couple but nothing more than anywhere else that is hot.
