Hi, I think it really depends on what you like to do on holiday. - Sue

It really depends on what you want to do once you're at the destination. If it's water sports especially - then Sharm is the place because Cape Verde seas are normally too rough. If it's chill out with nothing much to do but in a good hotel, then Cape Verde is probably favourable, especially the Riu in Boa Vista which is getting lots of good feedback at the minute. Whichever you choose, it'll be hot and the sun is almost guaranteed but choose wisely, do your research - lots of info on both destinations on this site and when you've decided - just enjoy it.

Hi we have just returned from Riu Karambo and we both prefered Sharm which we went to last year. We stayed at Hilton in Sharks Bay - also all inclusive.

The Riu is a good hotel but we found it very, very busy and vast. Therefore no atmosphere in bars etc. At Sharks Bay there were nice small bars, including a lovely Sunset bar and more pools, so if you wanted a bit of peace and quiet to read etc you can find it. . At Riu they are more like drink stations.

Cape is very much hotel based, at Sharks bay we could stroll to Soho Square for a bit of a change, seeing men on camels etc. as we went.

In Cape there are very few excursions - we went on Whale watching which was amazing but if we hadn't seen any it would have been three hours of misery. One man we met hired a taxi to go round the island and reported that there was virtually nothing to see. I went to Sal Rei and likewise nothing to see.

The hotel was very good but boring at night for a couple. Its great for week of R&R....lots of hotel activities but prefered Sharm for atmosphere and view etc. Water in Cape is very, very rough you can't swim and only watersports is kite surfing as it is very windy.

As for Sharm, choose your hotel carefully. Get good class one, maybe at Sharks Bay which is nearer enough to go to Sharm by cab but out of the frenzy. Also be aware it will be very very hot in June - but then Cape will be too.
