Main streets and villages

Hi,

We are in new York mid October and would like to take a day trip from manhattan to a main street / village and a beach on long island. Any reccommendations to one easy to reach via public transport?

Thank,

Tracy

You have this in the LIC forum which is actually in Queens NY. If you are looking to go to Long Island from nYC, you should post in the Nyc or LI forum.

October is not beach weather in NY--it will be cool. The beaches are open, but you will only find people out walking the boardwalk or running on the beach--things like that.

Not sure what you are looking for--if you are looking for the quaint village (shopping, restaurants, galleries, etc.), Long Island might not be the best place. There are a few that are easily accessible by train, but most don't have beaches. The only one that has downtown area with a little shopping and restaurants and that is walkable to the beach and train is Long Beach. If you want the village and waterfront (with a tiny beach), try Oyster Bay. There is also Huntington Village or you could move further east (like the Hamptons), but they are not really close enough for a day trip and October will be past the season.

If you would like the more quaint villages, you may want to try going north of the city--into the Hudson Valley. October is peak fall foliage and there are some lovely towns that are accessible by train.

If you would like more information or suggestions, you can try re-posting in a more specific forum. If you look above, there is a drop-down menu with a list of all the specific forums in NY.

Repost on the NYC forum for the most replies.

That's like saying "I couldn't find the Paris, France forum so I posted in the Paris, Texas forum." Long Island City is not in Long Island. The Long Island or New York City forums are where you'll get the most answers.
