What is Mattituck like? Thinking of going there after a hectic few days in NYC with 3 kids.... would you recommend it, we would prob stay in a holiday rental on a creek, is this agood Idea, and is it safe for the kids.

You will love it -- a wonderful small town on the North Fork abundant with natural beauty. The shoreline is perfect for small kids -- shallow waters, mild waves. Wonderful farmstands abundant with fresh fruit and veggies so you won't spend a fortune eating over-priced food that is unappreciated by the kids. Enjoy and see the other side of New York -- a hidden gem.

Just to clarify, as was stated this is the forum for Long Island City , which is a neighborhood in western Queens.

Long Island is the acutal island itself, encompassing Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

I'd re-post this on the forums for towns on Long Island, such as The Hamptons, Easthampton, Mattituck or on the New York City forum, too.
