Booked a suite for 2 nights in July. This is a new hotel. Any feedback would be appreciated, especially if the town is easily accessible by walking. Thank you

Depends on your definition of accessible. It is almost 2 miles to the downtown area.... And that's a hilly 2 miles. Other than that, it's brand new, and you can't beat that. Hampton Inn is closeby (and also brand new). Holiday Inn is much closer...better facilities.

What do you mean by Holiday Inn having better facilities? Isn't the Wingate brand new with an indoor and outdoor pool?

I just got back from staying at the Wingate Inn and I would highly recommend it. You could walk it from town although it is a rather long walk. However, we did walk it with three kids ages, 14, 12 and 8. Although I wouldn't do it on a regular basis. In response to the other reply, the Holiday Inn is NOT much closer to town. It is a little closer but certainly not enough to make a difference.

Thank you for replying. Were both pools open now? Was the outdoor pool nice? I had read an earlier review that said because the property was so new it was not open yet. Any other tips for the area? It will be my first time up. Thanks again.

well, for the more sophisticated tastes, the Holiday Inn has an incredible view. Their property is situtated where it overlooks the lake. My sister stayed there last year and while lounging in their outdoor pool, I lost myself in the view.

I believe the wingate has a wonderful view of a drugstore and trees. I can also imagine the bugs in that area (I have been on the bike trail several times that passes nearby)

Facilities-wise, I've never stayed at the wingate, so I can't compare its pools excersize rooms, etc.

Distance-wise, the difference is relative. As a person that has hiked over 25 miles of mountainous terrain in a day, with 50 lbs of equipment, the difference is negligible (to me). However, if I had small children, walking that extra hilly half mile would seem endless.

Do you think that the view of the lake from the outdoor pool is really worth the extra $$. The Holiday Inn is a little bit more pricey. I plan on being on or near the lake as much as possilbe, so I would like to save on the room if possible. Any input would be appreciated.

I can't answer that since I don't know what the cost difference is. Also, it's hard to guage standards held by other people (you) to make helpful suggestions that would be appreciated. Overall the differences are minimal, so I believe in the big picture, either choice would be fine. At least you have your priorities straight. Enjoy the lake! There's no other like it.

Both the indoor and outdoor pools are open. The outdoor pool is very nice and there are tables around it so if it's nice out you can eat breakfast outdoors on the patio overlooking the pool.

Just as an aside. The Holiday Inn is definitely NOT a half mile closer to town than the Wingate, the distance is negligible and I did walk from town back to the Wingate with three children ages 14, 12, and 8 and none of us are long distance runners or hikers, etc. Like I said, it was a bit of a walk and not something I would do regularly. However, the walk from the Holiday Inn was not any better at all and actually the Holiday Inn is on the other side of Route 9, away from the Lake. So you would have to cross busy Route 9 from the Holiday Inn. It was definitely more money than the Wingate which is also why I didn't pick it.

Unlike the other reviewer, I did stay at the Wingate and my entire family was extremely pleased. It is much newer than the Holiday Inn and the rooms were very large and the place was spotless. The beds are brand new and were the most comfortable I have slept in at a hotel.

I would not hesitate to stay here again. It also has a jacuzzi right by the indoor pool and a small fitness room as well. I would definitely recommend the place. The staff was quite helpful as well.

Just for arguments sake....

geocode the two locations below into google maps:

from: 43.415140, -73.712480

to: 43.410650, -73.707980

Mr. Google seems to agrees with me on the half mile (which was a complete guess before, but now I see it is pretty accurate).

BTW, you must have some bionic kids. 1/2 mile up hill (one way) for an 8 yr old is an accomplisment.

Anyhoo, I've never stayed in either place. I've only visited the holiday inn (the pool actually). So I limit my opinion to the basic characteristics that I am familar with....which is convenience to village and the view. I assume both places are nice. My sister was just as happy as the poster with the bionic kids.

Thanks. I think I will with the Wingate as much as I would love the view at the Holiday Inn. It is a pretty significant difference in price due to the holiday weekend.
