How to Get from LGA to Fire Island

Am arriving LGA and would like to know the best way or ways available to get to the Ferry (Sayville?) to carry us to Fire Island. Suggestions?

We believe that the easiest, but not the cheapest, method would be to take a taxi from LGA to the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) station in Jamaica, Queens. From there take the LIRR to your destination station: Sayville, if you are going to Point o’ Woods, Sailors Haven, Oakleyville/Cherry Grove or the Fire Island Pines; Bayshore, if you are going to the more western communities; Patchogue, if you are going to Davis Park or some of the more eastern communities. Whichever is your destination LIRR station, once you reach you reach it, you will probably be taking a minivan or taxi to a ferry (though some folks walk to the ferry); the ferry will take you to Fire Island.

For a less expensive taxi fare, you might consider taking a taxi from LGA to the LIRR Woodside station (i.e., instead of Jamaica). Then take the LIRR to the Jamaica station (and possibly change trains at Jamaica) and continue per the above.

Hope this helps. Your questions are always welcome.
