I am from the UK and in just under a month it will be my 40th birthday. I have been undecided in how I would like to celebrate it but now think it would be lovely to fly into one of the NY airports and drive into the Catskills - we would arrive 17th May and return 21st.
Could anybody let me know which airport we should ideally fly into? JFK seems to have direct flights from London Gatwick and along with Newark, seems to offer the best prices.
Am I right in thinking 'tourist' NY is about 3 hours drive from Catskills - obviously depending how far in you go!
With that in mind, we would like to stay somewhere within the Catskill range that is easily accessible and perhaps has an inn/ restaurant/ music that we could venture out to in the evenings. For one of the days we would like to visit NY centre but we need to be able to come away from hustle and bustle the same day.
When I was 12 we stayed in Peekskill and I remember that being lovely but my geography and memory is not so good these days and I can't remember how long we travelled to get there.
Any ideas would be gratefully received cos we need to start booking!
