Dinner

Am spending one night in Raton on the way back to Denver - staying at the Holiday Inn Express. Choices for dinner? We are travelling with dog and would like to be able to watch parking lot. If it is too warm will have to do take-out. Thanks for any help.

When are you traveling? There is not much dining in Raton.... We have had meals at the Oasis, Denny's and of course fast food... I think there also is a K-Bobs, not sure anymore!

Where are you driving from?

Travelling the second week of June. Returning from California and spending the night before in Gallup NM. Will be lunching at Garcia's in Albuquerque. Love that place!!

Along your way to Raton... you may want to stop at Ft Union Nat Mon.. last time we were there you could take your dog along the trails, not sure if this is allowed now. Maybe a fun stop.. then on to Raton. You may want to get some extra Mexican food in Albuquerque and heat it up in your hotel room in Raton.. burritos usually heat up just fine and maybe if you are so inclined, a local brew!

We stayed at the Holiday Inn last year. Nice rooms and VERY good service. My kids liked that the pool was open 24 hours even though they were not allowed to go down there in the middle of the night!

Anyway, the others are correct - there is not much there in the way of dining. There is a Sonic right behind the hotel - walking distance. We went to K-Bob's which was decent but we walked in right about 8pm when they were getting ready to close! Husband was not happy that they were out of baked potatoes.

Have a great trip - we are headed through there again this weekend - just not staying this time.

Was a great trip. We ended up eating at All Season's Family Restaurant in Raton. Good service, good clean food. Lots of locals - would say 90% of the customers knew each other and the servers. Will definitely stop there next time thru.

Raton has a number of great restaurants, you just have to look for them! The Sweet Shop and Ice House on Main street are great places to get a NY Strip and a glass of wine. The El Matador on Main, and the La Cocina on 3rd have very tasty local flavor/mexican quizine. The Sands, and All Seasons on the Clayton (hwy 87) road are good as well. Get off the highway, drive into town...you will be pleasantly suprised!
