Grand Sierra Summit vs. Renovated Peppermill Suite Reno

I'm trying to plan a trip to Reno and GSR is slightly cheaper and I stayed there last year- it was great! However, I understand that Peppermill is also very nice. There is an old topic but that is pertaining to pre-renovation Peppermill. Any preference which is better? Is Peppermill worth the extra money?

The Peppermill Tuscany Tower is very nice, but it's a tough call for me between that and the Summit rooms at GSR. Each resort is all inclusive with good restaurants and large casinos (although the Peppermill's casino floor is definitely bigger); I think the call for me would be based on the pool and the spa, as the Peppermill has a nicely landscaped one with hot tubs and the spa services are phenomenal. If those points aren't terribly crucial, go with what you know...!

Thanks for the reply! Is the pool/hot tub something open year round? The plan is to ski all day and gamble all night in February!

Between a military discount and 2 free night promo I got the GSR for about $110/night after tax (President's Day Holiday Weekend) and the Tuscany Tower would be closer to $180/night after tax. Peppermill doesn't seem to offer any good discounts. However, the idea of having a hot tub in the living area is quite exciting.

One of the pools is open year round, but I think they reserve the right to close it in inclement weather.

That's quite a price difference...were it I I would go with GSR, but maybe that's just the penny pincher in me :)

I have stayed at both and prefer the Peppermill Tuscany Towers, easy walk to the spa.

The Peppermill is also generous with comps. I just got offers that added up to up to 4 weekends, 3 night stays each, for next 2 months. Was joking with husband that Peppermill is my 2nd home. Parking at Peppermill is easy and covered, and recall GSR has all outdoor parking so inclement weather makes for less pleasant experience. Like being able to drive over to Silver Legacy & El Dorado where there are the newer latest slot machines.

Peppermill keeps hot tub going, and has a small pool heated to 90 degrees, and other pool heated to about 85 degrees. The largest of the pools usually open just summers. They close only if high winds, lighting, etc.

But last I stayed at Grand Sierra Resort, it was Hilton, and was pretty desolate - had the purple mauve theme going with the mirrors on the ceiling. Think had a golf driving range that I recall liking.

As far as staying going, I say spend the extra cash and go with the Peppermill, especially if it's for a Tuscany Room.

I personally love the Peppermill and always stay there when I'm in Reno. In addition, the pool is open and I have witnessed people sitting in the hot tub and such when it was snowing.

Have not stayed at GSR, but it's hard to imagine any of their rooms are as good as the Tuscany rooms. Pepp also has a better vibe. But if the difference is really $70, may be worth it.

Try signing up for the player's clubs on-line, then see what offers they send you.

It's not even close, go Peppermill.

GSR is old and frayed around the edges. The Summit rooms are dark and the bathrooms as half the size.
