It's the same sports book with a new name. The Leroy's chain was acquired by William Hill. There are no obvious changes in the operation other than the signs showing the new name.

At one time the EW racebook was my 2nd favorite after the Riverside, which remains firmly in 1st place, but after the Leroy's takeover it dropped way off, and now only occasionally patronize it.

As the largest race/sports book in Laughlin sizewise, they do offer the largest selection of tracks to wager on, and will sometimes walk down to place a wager on a track the RS is not taking that day, and Racing Forms are cheaper there, but except for that, not much else to offer, imo.

At one time knew most of the old staff well, but the new Leroy's crew seems indifferent. The place just feels dark and gloomy to me, and not many customers. Replacing the old style wallboards with electronic ones has added to this impression. According to several locals that I have talked to, my opinions are shared by many others, both locals and visitors. On my next visit, likely December, will check the place out and see if the new management has made any changes.

You're telling me that you prefer the old write on wallboards instead of the electronic ones? Just curious as to why?

With the old style wallboards you can view earlier results, scratches, and other changes at a glance, whereas with the electronic ones this information is harder to obtain, they are much harder to read from a distance, and they darken the room, adding to the gloom. This is one of reasons why my preferred racebook is the Riverside with it's old style wallboards.

Dropped by the Edgewater Sportsbook, noticed no changes either except for signage. Perhaps at some point they will upgrade the old tiny console tv monitors. And fix the missing lights on the letter on the sign outside the casino (which has been there for a long time).

It is definitely not as nice as the Aquarius sportsbook in looks and atmosphere. Haven't checked out the Riverside in a long time.

Have to say we took in part of the Breeders Cup at the Edgewater Sportsbook and were less than impressed by it. In fact, we left early and moved down the River to the Aquarius.

The place seemed understaffed for one of the busiest horse racing days of the year -- plus a day when there was alot of regular games as well. The self betting machines malfunctioned several times in the short time we were there. A couple arguments ensued in that area as well over people fighting about monopolizing the machines.

The sound was terrible, it was hard to even hear the race calls, and of course, they have the very tiny monitors.

On a positive note, the servers for drinks were prompt and did come around quite often.

Looks like the new boss is the same as the old boss at the Sportsbook.

Not sure what made us go back to Sportsbook again at the Edgewater.

Was the most convenient until we got in there. Too much noise, can't hear the calls, dirty, poor waitress service this time, staff and management seems uncaring, rude, and slow. Poorly set even for a big room, poor monitors. Time for them to upgrade.

Which one do those of you who are familiar with the Laughlin sports book recommend?

My play is mostly in the racebook rather on the sportbook side of the room, but one thing I have observed is that the sportbooks are usually not non smoking, a big factor for me. While the Riverside has a large non smoking racebook section and is my Laughlin favorite, the sportsbook section can be smokey. It is between the racebook smoking section and the bar as well. That being so, if spending the day just on sports, my choice might be the Aquarius. Do not care for the EW, GN, or HAR sports or racebooks at all. Have no experience in the clubs that have a sportsbook but no racebook, so cannot comment on these places.

The thing I remember about the Edgewater book from January, the cigarette ash drifts in the corners of the desks.

Dirty.

I agree with the above advice. Riverside or Aquarius books.

Thank you for the responses. May have to give the Riverside or even Aquarius a try.

Not sure how Edgewater can allow the book to be so dirty and poorly run. Millions of dollars in revenue and they can't put in new monitors and some nicer furniture? Not to mention some customer service training for their employees.
