Lighters/Matches in the airport.....

I am reading conflicting items in regards to having lighters and/or matches beyond security checkpoints....does anyone have any recent experience with this? What are the actual rules? One sight I look at says you can take them in your carry-on but not in your checked baggage, another says just the opposite. Does this mean that once you get past security, you will no longer be able to smoke? It lists matches too......

not excited at all luvbichon, I'm just trying to help a fellow smoker. I read confliting info as well so I went to the source.

Funny that the airline I called was AWA because of that link and thats who I'm flying with. I have to admit getting a straight answer from the TSA was alot more involved.

I was looking at the same TSA website from America West also which started this whole conversation in the first place.

I have no clue as to the rules or law, but I can answer your question about recent history.

My wife smokes, and she has never had a lighter taken away at any airport that we have ever been through. This includes two flights in the last week departing DFW and LV, the lastest 20 hours ago from LV.

Her lighter was in her purse.

pj

1) Nope its a national rule as dictated by the TSA.

2) I grew up in Washington DC and am fortunate to have alot of friends that work for the Feds (this is how I got thru the red tape) I was assured by a management level person from the TSA that all I stated above is the current rule. Can it change at anytime? Absolutely. Will it change? Probably. But who knows when. Its not like we smokers are well liked anyway !!!

OK just one more time.......

Matches = YES (up to 4 packs)

Lighters (carry-on only) = MAYBE...before 04/14/05

= Definately NO...after that date.

In short, want to smoke? Bring MATCHES !!!

Matches - Yes, but they have to be a book of matches and not a normal box.

Apologies to everyone.

I have given you the wrong information.

The truth is, if you try to pass through security with matches or a lighter of any kind you will be arrested imediately. You will then be escorted to a waiting plane by Donald Rumsfeld and a batallion of Marines. From there?....I hope luck is on your side.

Yep, matches can NOT be the strike anywhere type. I'm a big cigar smoker and coming to Vegas the end of April to attend a cigar function. Plan on picking up a torch as soon as I can......
