walking to Rio/Palms

Map quest says its a 35 minute walk from the strip, the hotel says its 8-10 mintues and someone in a review said it was close to 5.

Any thoughts about this if you know the area or have made the trek?

Map quest's estimate would be closest, in my opinion.

There's a free shuttle from Bally's to Rio that runs about every 30 minutes.

No way for the 5 minute option. I'm not even sure you can drive it in 5 minutes unless you get really lucky with the traffic lights.

In any event, it's an unpleasant slog over the freeway and the people I see doing it never look too happy. There are free shuttles to Rio and Gold Coast (and maybe to Palms?) from the Strip, or a 10 buck cab trip from Caesars.

Anyone that says it is a 5 minutes walk hasn't walked it...8 to 10 minutes..nope......why walk it when there are taxis, free shuttles from Harrahs, and Ballys....? plus, Gold Coast and Orleans, and then walk across the street...

No trouble "wasting space" ........ as long as you know to Never, Ever ...... EVER try and walk from the Strip to Rio or The Palms. A long tiime ago we walked out of the "side" (Augustus Tower) exit at Caesars. This, by the way is the closest spot to the Rio from the Strip. We made the classic, rookie, Vegas mistake. We looked at the Rio and said, "Hey .... look, its just right there!" The next 30 minutes are a part of my life that I can never get back ...... besides the extensive marital strain!

Take a cab ...... always, everywhere!

5 minutes, really? It takes that long to get from my hotel room to the casino floor.

Oh gosh, we saw people walking that route last week - people please just do not do it! I think we just need to officially say it - it is a terrible and long walk at best.

I wouldn't even want to cross the street from the Rio to the Palms in the heat of summer!

These hotels are so big that they might seem close, but they are far apart, especially off the Strip.
