Another 5 Start Question

Of the 5 start hotels/resorts, which do you prefer? Looking for luxury surroundings, good location, good service, expect to see some shows, little gambling, nice pool atmosphere (traveling in May 2014), will spend a good deal of time in the hotel/resort. $ not a big issue for the right place.

If you want a casino hotel experience, I'd go with Wynn Encore. Mandarin isn't a bad choice either as it is on the same property as Aria, but its not going to be as "Vegasy"

:) Yes, meant 5 star. So, going through the lists and reading reviews, its seems like MO is what we are looking for - better location than FS and Wynn Encore? FS is part of Mandalay Bay (top floors of MB)? There may be more families with children at FS in May. Can't figure out the difference b/t Wynn and Wynn Encore, but, in any event that is more towards the end of the strip? Both FS and MO seem to have nice pool areas. FS strip view vs MO strip view - FS seems to win in that area. Not being in a casino property isn't a deal breaker. A strip view room would be nice. For a May trip, when would you actually think of booking - anytime after January?

Wynn is one hotel. Encore is a sister property built a couple years later. Shared property, two separate hotels. Sometimes referred to "Wynncore" as internet shorthand, or Wynn/Encore.

You are going to have to tell us which hotels you consider 5 star. I consider Skylofts, Mandarin Oriental and Four Seasons to be 5 star hotels on the Strip.

In May we prefer Four Seasons because of the pool experience. And unless you go after Memorial Day you won't see many kids at Four Seasons or any of the nice LV hotels.

Thanks for the info. I know that MO and FS are considered 5 star in all localities - wasn't sure about the other hotels that appear in the drop down list in the quick search here on TA: Palazzo, Vdara, Bellagio, Venetian, Wynn, Wynn Encore, Aria, Skylofts, Trump, Cosmopolitan, Red Rock. I'm still reading reviews - smoke free property is also important, including smoke free casinos - any casinos smoke free? First visit to LV (in case you haven't picked up on that). Thanks again - this is a very active and interesting board.

I have stayed at FS, Encore, and Vdara. We had a strip view room at FS. We loved the room, the non-smoking, the service, the pool (fabulous), the bed (also fabulous), and we also liked Mandalay Bay, the casino property downstairs.

We also really liked Encore and I think I liked the location better than 4S. Vdara is really not in the same category, although it is non-smoking and the rooms are nice, and I liked the location the best of the 3.

Smoke-free casinos are scarce, although I do think V/P has some areas. As non-smokers, we find that the nicer and newer the property, the less the smoke bothers us.
