Where to stay?

This will be our first trip to Las Vegas. We are a group of 4 over 55's, one will probably need a wheel chair cannot walk to well. The three hotels I have looked at and considered are Desert Rose, Excalibur and Tropicana. Could someone please recommend one of these or another. We hope to spend approx. 5 nights. September/October 2011.

I would not recommend the Desert Rose, as it is off the Strip, which will only cause more problem getting around, with the mobility issues.

I would not recommend Excalibur because it's sort of a romper room - lots of kids running around.

Tropicana has recently undergone a lot of renovations so that would probably be your best bet.

If you wouldn't mind sharing your budget per night, maybe our members could give you a few more ideas. :)

I agree with yourstarla. Of those three Tropicana is your best bet, but tell us your budget to perhaps get other suggestions. Bear in mind that your money will go further if you avoid Friday and Saturday nights when hotel rates are much higher than midweek.

Also it's very early to be worrying about a hotel for next September/October. No need to really do anything until the middle of next year when promotional deals for your dates start to appear.

I've never been to Desert Rose.

Excalibur has a entry long ramp, pushing wheelchair may be a challenge.

Tropicana- my least favorite.

But, Excalibur and Tropicana are ideal south Strip properties, with elevators and cross over bridges. So, going north to south and east to west will be easy.

Have fun!!!

For a hotel in the same price range I would recommend Monte Carlo. It is a good choice for someone with mobility problems. A smaller casino, which is easy to navigate, and has decent spacing betweens banks of machines. The parking is in the rear of the hotel, away from the Strip so you don't have to walk through the casino to get from car or cab to rooms. Also you can get from the rooms to pool, shopping and some dining, without having to navigate through the crowds in the casino. And you can get to the free tram which takes you to City Center and Bellagio directly from the room elevators. A very nice bonus is the high ceilings and excellent ventillation system which makes MC less smokey than most of the other economy hotels.

Monte Carlo offers a much greater choice in dining and entertainment than your choices for about the same price.

No matter where you stay- instead of using a wheelchair, you should look into renting an electric scooter. It would be much easier for everyone concerned.

Last May I had a temporary disability that prevented me from walking far . I thought I could get by with crutches and a wheelchair. I was wrong and I was very sorry I didn't rent the scooter.

I also think Monte Carlo would be a much better bet, for the same reasons Ktinca gave.

I would check the prices at Bill's right at center strip too. But, of your choices, Tropicana.

Agree with Tropicana of your three choices but I too would think Bill's would be a great location for you. The Excalibur will be full of kids and I don't care for the location at all. It's one of my least favorite places in Las Vegas.

Nashville, Monte Carlo is garbage. I stayed there and wasn't impressed and the room wasnt even clean when we got there. Stains on the blankets, toilet wasn't flushed.... digusting.

I would second the vote for Bill's or even Casino Royale. They are both very central locations and close to so many things without walking far, and easy, short access to your rooms.

The Trop...leaving it to get somewhere is quite a walk because of the crossover. And yes, Excalibur is one of the longest walks to get to.
