Las Vegas / LA side trip

Hi

We have just booked two weeks in SoCal end June/early July, travelling from the UK.

We now need to sort out itinerary and accommodation.

We plan to send a few nights in Santa Monica on the beach and seeing LA sights then drive to Vegas for 3-4 nights.

We would also like to see some of the natural wonders and interested in any advice or suggestions. Is the Grand canyon doable or are there any other state parks we should consider?

re accommodation - we would like to combine some luxury with some more affordable/quirky places. thinking Las Vegas is the best option for (affordable) luxury so any suggestions for the other accommodation options would also be very appreciated.

many thanks in advance

Sally

Hi

You have many options, we have in the past done a trip from LA to Palm Springs, Lake Havasu City then on to Flagstaff for the Grand Canyon and then Las Vegas. We usually have an evening flight out of LAX which gives us all day to do the 4 to 5 hour drive back to the airport.

We did a road trip on our first trip and repeated with several tweaks for other trips.

All doable as we like scenery and sights too.

L.A for 5 days

Vegas 4 days

G.Canyon 2 days

Palm Springs 1 day

San Diego 2 days then drive back to L.A for flight

5 days in L.A will give a nice amount of time to see all sights, beaches, etc. Vegas with 4 days is good if first time to catch all sights, and part day trips to Red Rock Canyon and/or Valley of Fire. Easy drive to Grand Canyon. Long return leg broken by stay at Palm Springs. Catch a couple of days at S.Diego for Zoo, Wildlife Park or Sea World.

Worked for me!

Hi

If you go to San Diego you can go to Tijuana in Mexico for a day trip. A culture shock!!! Even though the place is geared towards visiting Americans.

Sounds like a great holiday! Have you done any research yet or have any ideas on hotels in Vegas where you might want to stay? If you need help, give us dates and what your budget would be per night for a room and we'll be happy to help you out with suggestions.

thanks for taking the time to give so much advice and help. Really appreciate it.

Returning via Palm Springs and San Diego sounds really cool

Gabby - re Las Vegas hotels - we have visited one time before 10 years ago and know it is a very different place now with lots new to see. Would like to be on the strip and somewhere with a great pool, good quality but not mega $$$$. Would be great to have some suggestions.

Another qn, do rental cars have satnav as standard?

Hi

Here is link for hotels

Hire cars do not come with sat nav unless you pay $10 a day, at that price it is cheaper to buy one and bring it with you if you are there for a while.

Sounds like a very nice trip. Don't spoil it with the suggested visit to Tijuana. Everything else is really enjoyable - no sense visiting a sleazy boarder town when there are so many great things to do in San Diego.

I agree with the above poster...don't spoil your trip with Tijuana. Everything else sounds great though!
