What is the best way to cancel and rebook a hotel room?

What is the best way to cancel and rebook a hotel room?

1) Is it better to cancel on the web site and rebook?

2) Rebook first on the web site and then cancel the old reservation?

3) Call the hotel and have them adjust the price difference?

Do all hotels adjust the prices if it goes down?

If they are not willing to adjust the rate, then cancel and re-book.

Since the experts have already answered, I am just adding my personal experience so you will know it's easy. I booked directly through the hotel at Caesars 2 or 3 months in advance. After booking, I received a promo in the mail for a better rate, I called and spoke with them and they adjusted it. Later, I saw an even better rate on line for the one night that wasn't already comped. I called and they said they could offer me even a lower rate at that time and booked it that way. I would think it is less paper work for them in the end. Just be sure you have you confirmation code and be certain it doesn't change with each new arrangement.

I would call the hotel and have them adjust the price difference. I have never had a problem doing this. The only case that I would think you might have a problem is if it is a special rate for paying the complete balance ahead of time. I did this w/the Hilton before understanding that the rate couldn't be changed.

This is under the assumption that you booked directly through the hotel.
