We have all day to drive from Bozeman to our rental in West Yellowstone. What are suggested scenic stops or hikes on the way?
We did side trip up to Big Sky and it was very scenic. Sort of got lost amongst all the condos and hotels but nice views of Lone Peak. I suspect there are some nice hiking trails around there. Not sure how much of the area is private and how much might be National Forest land but well worth checking out.
Are you planning to spend any time in Bozeman? What time of year?
Not really. Our flight arrives at 4:30 p.m. (June) and then we are driving down to West Yellowstone the next day.
I would suggest spending the time in Bozeman, then driving down to West. You could take an extra half hour and pop in to see the Big Sky ski area, but there really isn't much there. If the lift is running -- bigskyresort.com/Activities/…Scenic-Lifts.asp -- you could take that up (and down) Lone Mountain.
I think you'd need more than half an hour in Big Sky to get to the summit and back. If it's nice, taking the lift up to the top and walking down is a great experience and I recommend it.
What suggestions do you have for Bozeman?
Also, does anyone have information on Beehive Basin hike? I can't seem to find specifics on it. Thanks
Not sure how much time you have in Bozeman, but there's always the Bozone Brewery! 3 beer max per person, but they're delicious beers and then it's a short hike to Montana Ale Works which has pretty decent food, and, more beers.
