It should be nice enough, although the Drury Plaza has more perks like a free full breakfast, evening beverages and snacks. It's also closer to the stadium, and has a better view of downtown/Arch grounds. May even be less expensive.
I agree with Blueeye - it's not terribly convenient. I can't think of any tourist attractions or restaurants you can walk to from there. It would be great if you were coming in for a hockey game, concert or a meeting at city hall. It is extremely convenient for the Metrolink, though, so you can easily get to the stadium or riverfront that way.
Better spots, in addition to the Drury Plaza, would be the Four Seasons, for it's convenience to the riverfront, and the Westin or Ballpark Hilton. Check out
If you want to try Hotwire or Priceline, here is some info from a recent post:
from betterbidding.com, so this may help you...recent bids won on HOTWIRE...for 4 star ST LOUIS DOWNTOWN:
Hilton at The Ballpark 4* - $65 July 09
Hilton at Olive 4* - $64 May 09
Marriott Union Station 4* - $69 July 09
Omni Majestic 4* - $68 May 09
WON ON PRICELINE - 4* St Louis (Downtown) Renaissance Grand $55 ... 6/16/09-6/17/09
4* St Louis (Downtown) Marriott Union Station
$53 ... 6/15/09-6/16/09
It sounds like you have a good plan for your trip. Those three places should take up two days. If you find yourself with extra time, the zoo or the Arch would be easy things to add for free. If you can squeeze the Arch in, even just to walk around the base or see the museum and film "Monument to the Dream" movie, I recommend it.
Here are some good family restaurants for your visit:
The Sheraton City Center is one of my favorite downtown hotels. In the above example of priceline wins...the Sheraton is a 3* hotel so the price would be cheaper if you were lucky enough to "win" the Sheraton. I have gotten it through priceline for as cheap as $33 before!!
However, I must say that if I am paying "full price" for a hotel, I would choose the Drury Plaza. It is my absolute favorite downtown hotel...top of my list!We stay there if we want to pay full price and know where we are staying and if we have the dog...as all Drurys are pet-friendly.
I just usually prefer to do the priceline thing and am so happy when it comes up the Sheraton :)
