Saint Louis forum I will be going to St. Louis is April and last week on Diner, Drive-Ins, and Dives, they wend to a resaruant called Sweetie Pie's at 4270 Manchester Ave. I have been told that there are some not so safe parts of St. Louis. My question is that area safe and also has anyone been there and if so how is the food? Thanks for your help.
It is a safe area. I wouldn't walk around that area at 1 am by myself, but who would do that anywhere, regardless of the city?
It's a very good restaurant; I'm glad it was featured on that show. However, we have a LOT of good restaurants. Many people think we are just a podunk town in the Midwest, but our restaurants rival any places I've been during my travels, from China to NY to LA.
Where are you staying? I can give you some suggestions.

For Sweetie Pie's, you will take Highway 40 west (This section of 40 is still open) to Boyle. Left on Boyle, then right on Manchester. Just map it for a copy for yourself.
Like I said before, don't go late at night by yourself. Going for dinner will be fine.
Since you will be downtown, there are some yummy places on Washington Avenue, just a few blocks from where you are.
Sushi - Wasabi
Fusion - Lucas Park Grille
American - American Place
Tapas - Mosaic
Breakfast/Lunch - Rooster
Fondue - Simple Fondue
Steak - 15, Mike Shannon's
Pub - Tap Room
Of course, these are just some places to try. There are other places that are hidden away, like 10th Street Italian, that are good as well.

Sweetie Pies is great soul food, served from steam tables as you walk the line. Eat there often, neighborhood is fine, parking will be close. In tha same area, Five is quite good for upscale dinner and Newstead Pub is quite good "gastro-pub." (i.e. upscale pub food).
love 2 travel, did you say the rest. in stl rival those in china,la or nyc? man we can't stop laughing how many five star places are in stl about 0 check how many are in LA or nyc..... hahahaha your tripping
They don't have to have five stars to serve good food.
I'm being very serious. We have very good food here. In fact, the chef at Niche was voted one of the top ten in THE COUNTRY. Believe me, our food is very good here.
I'm a little late here, but if you like DDD, Guy also went to Iron Barley here in St. Louis. I haven't been there yet, but it looks good, and I have heard good things!
