What area hotel?

We would like to visit the Hallmark Museum, Harley-Davidson tour, see downtown, visit Independence for the Truman historical sights and probably go to a couple casinos. Can anyone tell me the area I should be looking at to book a hotel that would be centrally located for all these sights?

There are 2 hotels attached to Crown Center (with Hallmark) that are also close to downtown, Westport and the Plaza area. Truman stuff is in Independence which would be a short drive, less than 30 min I think. The casinos are north of the river from downtown, also a short 15 min drive or so. Harley Davidson location also looks to be quite a bit north of downtown. Depends on your budget?

Much like goodiowagirl describes, what you want to see is fairly spread out. Will you have a car or are you thinking taxi or bus? Best would be car. Taxi's would be next and bus or public transit last. Also as she mentioned any hotel in the Crown Center area would be centralized to what you want to see. Plus good restaurants and other sites to see that you have not mentioned.

Yes, we will have a car. Would like a nice hotel but would like to stay under $100 per night if possible.

Good for the car but I'm afraid the hotels in the Crown Center area are more around the 125 to 130 a night range. That's just a guess. You can check out the Westin Crown Center Kansas City or the Sheraton at Crown Center hotels to verify. Just a little bit further north, more into the actual downtown area is a little boutique hotel I like to recommend called the Aladdin Hotel it's actually a Holiday Inn I think. It's just a few blocks from the Kansas City Power and Light District and Spring Center. The KCP&L is full of restaurants and bars and is especially hopping if there is a concert at the Sprint Center.

I can get some really good rates at the Harrah Casino Hotel. Do you think that is to far out of the way to see the places of interest I have mentioned.

No, actually it's not far from any of those locations of interest. Nothing more than 20 to 30 minutes which is about average to get around the whole of Kansas City anyway. The only issue would be there is just really not very much (nothing at all) in or around that direct location of the Casino so anything at all you want to do will be a drive.

Lots of more inexpensive hotels in the Independence area as well with many restaurants nearby too, nearer to the Truman area. Drury Inn comes to mind as one but probably all major brands.

True, however the area ha a lot to be desired and it is no where near being centrally located. North Kansas City in the area around I-29 and Armour Road has a few inexpensive hotels that might work for you. Gets you a bit closer to the Harley plant but a little further away from the Truman Library and home.
