We'll be going to the Chiefs/Saints football game this Sat. and had intended to stay near Country Club Plaza, Crown Ctr. (which is close to the Power and Light area, right?). We could stay near Arrowhead Stadium and walk to the game, but if we don't, does anyone know how much it costs to park in the stadium lot? When the nearby hotels say they are in walking distance of the stadium, are they like within a 2 mile walking distance by the time you walk to them and through the parking lots, or is it a mere 1/2 mile or so?

Also, can anyone tell me if the Sheraton Sports Ctr. used to be a Holiday Inn many yrs. ago? We stayed in a hotel that I remember as a highrise Holiday Inn about 17 yrs. ago that was across from the stadiums during the summer for our son's baseball tournament. I recall being told there had been numerous breakins to cars in that area at the time, and the hotel had guards in little golf carts that patroled at night. HOWEVER, the baseball coach's van was stolen from the parking lot during that night! It was found, but had been stripped of the radio and various other things.

The Country Club Plaza and Crown Center are not that close to the P& L District. To give you and idea. CCP is around 47th and Main, CC is around 25th and main and the P&L D is around 13th and main. So there would be a lot of walking in some pretty busy areas.

The hotels are directly across from the stadium. Basically it's walking the distance of a professional team parking lot. I have no clue what they would be considered mile wise but we've walked it.

Here are some links for the hotels across from the stadiums.

YIKES! Are there other places nearby where we could park for less? I mean, I CAN walk pretty far. It's just that I'm not wild about it!

Also, how far ahead of time should we leave for the game if we are staying, say, near Crown Center or Country Club Plaza? Since the Chiefs aren't doing very well right now, can we still expect a big traffic jam heading to the stadium? Any tips re: in that regard would also be appreciated!

Thanks for the replies!

I don't know of any cheaper parking. When the games were sold out people use to park on the grass outside the ticket booth without paying. Maybe someone in here could say if they still do that??

We use gate 4 to get in..it's always less crowded. You may want to consider the chiefs bus

www.kcata.org/maps_schedules/chiefs_express/

I'm not sure how much time to alot for the driving. We always come from the east side and arrive early to tailgate so traffic is not horrible. I'd leave at least an hour early from either location.

Gates open at 9:30am and there is an initial rush with the tailgaters to get there early...then traffic dies down a bit until closer to gametime....we get there right when the gates open but I'd allow for at least an hour if driving.

I'd suggest the chiefs express bus as well unless you want to get there early and check out the tailgating (which is better than the Chiefs this year).
