With the addition of the Hiawatha line the thought has occured to me that there is a lot of empty parking at the VA Hospital and the train stops right there. The times I've been there visiting people I don't recall any signs or warnings about non-hospital related parking. I know many patients have cars and park there for extended periods of recovery. Do they have a parking permit system?
The thinking was that for short trips with two or more people it would be possible to drop one person with luggage at the airport and then swing over there to park and take the train to the terminal. I have not tried this and have not heard of anyone having problems doing it. Not sure how secure it would be but obviously patients use it. Again there is a lot of empty parking so it is not as if anyone were being denied parking...unless I suppose hundreds of people park there and fly.
Or it could be an alternative to our current practice of parking at MOA for early in morning flight and having son and daughter-in-law pick up car after they are off work....but VA would allow for overnight one night whereas at MOA they will tow after mnidnight. We usually give them enough cash to go out to dinner at MOA in leu of parking costs at airport. Reverse for return.
