Brief one night getaway with DH and DS age 20. The main reason was 18 holes of free golf at Crystal Mountain. T-time of noon, we arrived 45 minutes early but had to wait. Crystal Mountain resort is beautiful. Lots of construction going on. DH and DS golfed while I had hoped to either shop/sit somewhere nice/or visit with people etc. Unfortunately the resort does not cater to the general public. No shopping except for the club house. No place to sit except for a few picnic tables outside by the pool facilities. FYI-to use the pool would have been $20 entry fee. No one to visit with, except staff.
So I spent my time with a good book while the rest of the family did 18. After 3 1/2 hours we headed north thru Leelanau to Suttons Bay. Spent some time there, then headed down to Traverse City.
We did this outing without motel reservations, so I was a bit worried. By now it was 7PM. We had to stop for dinner at the Red Mesa, one of our favorite restautants. Food was excellent.
We drove up to the top 4 motels listed on TA but they were all full. Many of the motels on the bays had the "NO" lights on, so I was beginning to worry. We ended up at the Holiday Inn Express in Acme, which was fine. Absolutely no complaints what so every. Comfortable beds with 4 pillow each and triple sheeting.
Spent some late night time at the new casino. All 3 of us came back to the motel with more money in our pockets, so that is always nice.
Next morning was a return to the casino and we all gave back what we took home the night before. By then we headed home but our last stop was the world famous "Moomers" Ice Cream company made famous on Good Morning America. We had wanted to see this place for a long time, since they won the GMA ice cream contest. Moomers is southwest of the town and thank goodness for our GPS unit! People were standing outside the doors at noon when they opened. I am not really a fan of ice cream, especially on a rainy, cold Saturday morning but I must say that it was pretty good. We all sampled eachothers flavors and hands down DS's vanilla, fresh cherry & raspberry mixture was the best. Our trusting GPS unit took us south thru the country until we hooked up with the main road and we headed home.
