St Ignace really doesnt have a "beach" area. There are a couple of small swimming area's right in town. Down US 2 there are wonderful sandy public beaches on Lake MI about 10 miles out of town. North of town there are hotels on Lake Huron but its not good swimming. The lake bottom is very rocky. Each motel may have a small sandy area on the water and I suppose you could swim, but wear water shoes and watch out for the seagulls. We love the Budget Host downtown, and stay there frequently. The easiest commute to the casino would be to stay at their hotel on site. Otherwise the casino does have a shuttle that will pick you up at any of the motels in town. From downtown I would guess it maybe 5-7 miles north to the casino.

I am looking for a place to sit out at night more than to swim at.

Your thoughts?

Thanks.

Definately try for the Casino hotel. Its less than 5 years old, about 4 stories tall. Watch that Kewadin has 2 different hotels in St Ignace. You want the one attached to the casino, "Kewadin Casino Hotel & Convention Center".

I know they book up with bus tours, and getting a room can be difficult.

They do have more than one nice outside sitting area looking to the north over the water. One area is just outside the doors to the main entry way between the casino & motel. The second area is quite a walk down a nice paved sidewalk to another sitting area. I cant remember what types of chairs are down there. I do believe there are also outside chairs by the indoor pool but I dont know about the view.

Otherwise, check into any of the other lodging right on Lake Huron. I know that some have chairs out near the water.

Being that the water level is low for several years, there is a change of flow of sand toward the beaches in St. Ignace. Many stay in St. Ignace and go to the Sand Dunes on US 2 nearby. Many of the large motel- hotels have grassy beaches with large and small swimming pools.

On the whole, the hotels try to make guests feel relaxed and happy. Some have free cont. breakfast and some do not. There is a variety or types of chairs on the beach. Such as, lawn chairs, swings, chairs around the fire pits for the guests pleasure, picnic tables, and even catered dinners on the beach . Some have large and small swimming pools. Do all rooms face the lake and able to see the sun rise or not. The area has restaurants and Mc Donalds and Burger King . Many shops, and Deer Ranch along with Castle Rock, golf and fishing nearby. Lots of History and hospitality. St. Ignace is known for family vacations.

Just call one of the 3 ferry lines that provide free shuttle to the docks that ferry to Mackinac Island. Also, call the Casino for a free shuttle. St. Ignace is centrally located to various points of interest. Many weekend happenings, Car Shows, 4th July parade, Fireworks, Basket Ball Event, near by Boat Show, ets.

As for buses, some hotels have large parking lots with a free cont. breakfast. Ample facilities, such as parking, pools, dining area, open spaces and having king, queens and double beds and family units with various prices. Just smell the roses.
