Light gave you just about all the info there is for the areas you are questioning. I think there is also a Tower of History in the Soo. And there is a museum about the Locks, right in the park. I'd follow his advice and see the Falls, Whitefish Point (Shipwreck Museum) and Iroquis Lighthouse. That is a very nice drive.

You could also spend part of a day driving out US 2 from St Ignace, west that is and se some very nice beaches. Go wading or swimming. Park right along the highway, they have wide shoulders in those areas.

BTW: be sure to take warm clothing. It will probably be nice, but you could hit some very cold weather during the trip.

So when you say cold do we need to prepare for mornings in the 50's? Daytime high?? Riding motorcycle in 70's is definitely more comfortable than temps in the 50's

I agree that M-134 to Detour is a very scenic ride. If you are in the Soo on June 25 plan to attend Engineer's Day at the Soo Locks -- it is the only day of the year you can walk across across the lock. June 26 is the International Bridge Walk from Soo, MI to Soo, Ontario. It takes a few hours but the views are great (bring your passports).

I also agree that the scenic route from the Soo to Whitefish Point and Tahquamenon Falls is definitely worth the trip.

I like the buffet at Studebaker's in the Soo. I might be biased about that as all the decor is about Studebaker/South Bend

Thanks for the advice... I'll have to take a look at a map to see where your talking. I am not familiar with the UP at all. If you think of anything else jsut let me know. Our weather has been so nice I have been riding quite a bit already this year. Can't wait till June!

What direction are you coming from and where do you plan to head after you do the Sault area? Are you thinking of spending one night or is a one day cruise better for you? Is two nights a maybe?

Are you interested in freighters or light houses?

On a side note, a couple of places to eat.... both drive-ins....

The first one is in St Ignace. Clydes Drive In on W US Highway 2, Saint Ignace, MI 49781

The second one is in the Soo. West Pier Drive In 601 W Portage Ave

Sault Ste Marie, MI 49783 It is along the canal, near West Pier Place apartments by the railroad bridge.

Both have very yummy burgers. Was next to West Pier Saturday night but they are not open yet for the summer. Too bad.

The view is nice at the Sault Ste Marie Clyde's, with the freighters passing nearby and the Sugar Island Ferry.
