 accommodation bodh gaya

My partner and I are planning to visit Bodh Gaya in November 2009. Any suggestions for clean, comfortable accommodation. Don't want 5 star. Would rather know I'm in India but don't want grotty. Have read Hotel Embassy and Sujata are comfortable. Also Deep Guest House. Any further advances would be appreciated.

Hotel Sujata is good. It has all mod cons..

One suggestion: Bhutan monastery at Buddha Marg is a very nice place to stay. this is at walking distance from the Mahabodhi temple where the Lord Buddha achieved Awakening, Other places are also closeby.

Dear K-Yogi,

Thank you for your suggestion. The Monastery sounds good. Don't need too many mod cons - have plenty of those in this part of the world. My assumption is that we just turn up.

The Monastery is set in a tranquil place surrounded by gardens. The accommodation is basic, but you'll love the environment.

Thanks for number. Am I allowed to ask you about varanasi accommodation or do I post it on that forum - not sure of etiquette. Will ask anyway - was thinking of Monu Family Paying Guesthouse? Do you know anything about it?

I have stayed at Yogi Lodge near the Temple and at Temple at the Ganges at Assi Ghat, both are excellent place. Again both are basic accommodation only.

I have heard that Monu is a good place. Owner is a member at this forum.

For greater response, you may post at Varanasi forum too !

Bhutan monastery is good i stayed there in 2007. Made friends with shop owner across from the monastery a young named sanjay he offered to put me up in his family home so check with him. Root institute is good too the food is great also great shrine room and room for yoga and library. Keep an eye out for Swamiji a hindu monk dresses in white long black beard and long hair really nice man happy to teach you yoga in the park or meditation ask at the Chai stalls or the fresh juice stall for him. Have a great time. Gerry

Would you mind giving rough prices of the places you mentioned, Buthan and places in Varanasi? I'll be there in 5 weeks and looking for single 15USD at most. Thank you in advance.

If I was going to Bodhgaya again I would definitely try and stay at the Root Institute - a Buddhist Centre just outside the town - easily auto rickshaw into town - beautiful surroundings and peaceful - I don't know what their prices are but they have a web site. Also Deep Guest House got good reviews. Also the monasteries get good reviews. I wouldn't recommend where we stayed and it was over $50 a night. In Varanasi we stayed a Monu Family Paying Guest House it was cheap, (premium room was $12), comfortable and very central Delightful family and if you are lucky Monu will give you a tabla concert. Good Luck
