The Best Western is on US 31 which means you are in the commercial area of Grand Haven. A highway filled with chain restaurants and regular stores that you could see anywhere. You would have to drive to downtown Grand Haven and the Beach. If you don’t mind a short drive then this hotel should be fine but just be aware that you are not in the “quaint” part of town.
You don’t mention if you are traveling with kids or not. My husband and I stayed at The Harbor House Inn last year and it’s a wonderful place. It faces the Grand River and is in walking distance to the beach, boardwalk and downtown. I wouldn’t’ recommend it with children though. I’m not sure if they even allow children since its closer to a B&B then it is a hotel. I didn’t see any children when we were there.
The only hotel I can think of that is near the water is the Blue Water Inn and this would be ok for families. I don’t’ know how the accommodations are there since I’ve never stayed there I just know it faces Lake Michigan. Another family option would be the Kharadoma Lodge – again I’ve only seen this from the outside but it is within walking distance to the beech and there were families there. Another place for couples would be the Looking Glass Inn. I want to stay here. It sits high up and has views of Lake Michigan. It looked really neat. You take a cable car of sorts to get to the top. Hope this helps. Grand Haven is a really nice town to visit.
