Transport to Martha's Vineyard

Hi

We will have a car and am wondering that if we don't take it with us to Martha's Vineyard what is the alternative mode of transport once there, as I see there are other areas to visit such as Edgartown, Oak Bluffs,Vineyard Haven and Up-Island. Also are any of these places worth visiting or are they tourist traps where there may be nicer places to visit especially in the heat as it is mid August and as we are only spending a day/two here.

Also is the Inter-Island ferry from Martha's Vineyard to the island of Nantucket worth the visit?

Thanks again for any help.

Here's a repeat of some info I posted on Monday of this week. Some of your questions are answered here.

If you dare then rent mopeds. Otherwise you might want to rent regular bikes. IMHO folks are better off if each person has their own for the mopeds that is.

Also a good option (perhaps the best option) is www.vineyardtransit.com for the shuttles. They travel betweek Vineyard Haven, Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, Aquinnah (Gay Head) and more.

You should try to get to Edgartown. If you want to go over to Chappaquiddick you can take the On Time Ferry. If you are on foot or bikes then don't worry about the long line..you'll get right on. If you go and want to see Dike Bridge, the scene of the drowning incident involving Ted Kennedy, ask for simple directions.

There's also the South Beach Trolley from Edgartown to three points at South Beach.

Also, you could take a tour. Gay Head Sightseeing and M. V. Sightseeing - www.mvtour.com. and Adam Cab - www.adamcab.com.

Last tour idea is: Ghosts, Gossip, and Downright Scandals - 508-627-8619 Vineyard History Tours. Call in advance. In fact you might have to try to reach them at the Historical Society: www.marthasvineyardhistory.org. These are interesting walking tours.

In Oak Bluffs don't miss the Trinity Park Tabernacle and the surrounding Wesleyan Grove. Walking only in the Grove. Try to grab the brass ring on the Flying Horses Carousel.

Aquinnah - the brillantly colored clay cliffs. Walk beyond the souvenier shops for the best view. There's also a boardwalk down to the beach.

Something different: www.thetrustees.org -> Natural History tours. (Cape Pogue Wildlife Refuge).

www.falmouthcapecod.com and www.woodshole.com

You'll have a great time.
