Scenic drive from Fall River to New Haven

We will be driving from Boston to Fall River, then from Fall River to New Haven (CT). Could anyone advise some good scenic roads that we could stop at along the way? We've never been to this area so any input would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

I'll give it a shot.

From Fall River, take Route 24 South. Follow into Rhode Island and take Route 114 South. Follow down into Newport. 114 South becomes Broadway in Newport. Get on Bellevue Ave in Newport which will take you by all the mansions. Bellevue will take you to Ocean Drive. Take the Ocean Drive loop and come back Northbound out of Newport. Cross the Newport and Jamestown Bridges (this will be Route 138 West). Once over the Jamestown, take first exit which will be Route 1a south (Boston Neck Road). Follow straight into Narragansett. Boston Neck Road will become Ocean Road. Follow Ocean Road all the way down to the Point Judith village of Narragansett. There's a Coast Guard Lighthouse there. There's also a small dirt road before the Coast Guard Station (not the entrance to Breakwater Village) but it's called Camp Cronin. Follow the short dirt road down to the parking area. SPECTACULAR views of the coastline with Block I sland in the distance. The Lighthouse will be visible by looking left. There's a nice Breakwall here you can walk out on if you are up to it. There's also a couple small, private beaches as well (those are the Breakwater Village beaches). Once done there, back up Ocean Road and take a left onto Route 108 North. Follow to Route 1 South. At this point, you can follow along Route 1 but there are also exits onto Route 1A which will take you closer to the water if you so choose. Follow Route 1 to Route 78 (Westerly Bypass Road). This will connect you back onto Route 95 South for the rest of the trip down to New Haven.

Thank you. You've been very helpful. That was exactly what we were looking for. We won't have that much time to stop & look around, but 1 lighthouse would use just a perfect portion of time we have.

Plus the fact that MapQuest told us to go all the way up to Providence, only to come back down to find 95. So this coast line path is exactly what we're trying to find out.

Will gave you an excllent Route....FYI, from Fall River to New Haven, Mapquest gave you the quickest route. Providence isn't really "Up" from Fall River, it's west of it, so going through Providence is the quickest way to go. (Rt 195 West to Rt 95 South in downtown Providence.)

You're welcome, Kylan.

Just so you know, Camp Cronin is basically just a dirt parking lot that provides a scenic overlook. It's not some large camp that you have to drive around in. It's an awesome little spot to get out, stretch your legs and have a bite to eat while enjoying some great scenery. Great spot for taking some pictures on clear days. Oh, and speaking of food, there's Aunt Carrie's and Iggy's that you come upon shortly before getting there. Order up a dozen clamcakes, a couple of chowders and take them with you to Camp Cronin. :-)

Hi Will. Just want to let you know, thanks so much for letting us know about the lighthouse.

It's gorgeous.

Aunt Carrie & Iggi's were right across the street from each other. We decided to go to Aunt Carrie because it seemed to have an available parking spot. Although they both had long lines, Aunt Carrie had an advantage as to you could actually dine inside.

Not that we ate there. We took your suggestion. Had the food to-go, and brought them to the lighthouse.

We passed Camp Cronin, but it seemed like there was something going on. It was packed. So we kept going until we couldn't go any further, park in some sort of park on the left hand side.

We ate in the car (gazebos were occupied), then we walked to the lighthouse. Sat on the grass, watched the waves hitting the rock. Oh so peaceful.

It was really beautiful. Look forward to my next trip to that area, and we could probably visit the other lighthouses.
