I was looking at the reviews of some of the hotels in Gaithersburg, Maryland and noticed someone writing about the Motel 6 but said they were normally fans of Red Roof Inns but not this one.
That reviewer was NOT staying at a Red Roof Inn. They were at a Motel 6.
This may be the reason for the confusion. The Motel 6 near where the train tracks go across Interstate 270 caddy corner to the Montgomery County Fairgrounds USED TO BE A RED ROOF INN.
The cookie cutter architecture of the building is such that it was stamped out in the Red Roof Inn style but now is owned by Motel 6. The Red Roof people bought the former Days Inn about three miles away on Shady Grove Road and made that the new Red Roof Inn in the Gaithersburg, Maryland area. It has the cookie cutter look for a Days Inn, too so they may be some confusion with that site of other reviewers.
