extended stay in Columbia

Hello, my husband will be working near the Baltimore airport for june and july and I am looking for an extended stay place, two bedrooms. I was suggested two options: Gramercy at Town Center or Stellar Columbia at Town Center.

I wonder if anybody is familiar with this apartment communities and would recommend me which one is nicer for families.

Another question is how easy is to get the train to Baltimore and Washington from Columbia. Is it possible to live there without a car?

And last, would anybody recommend a daycamp for my kids 13 and 10?

Thank you so much for your help,

Gaby C

Gramercy and Stellar are both very nice properties. When they say Town Center they mean it, they are within literally right across the street from the mall which is in the heart of Columbia.

It is easy to catch the train to either Baltimore or Washington. There is a Marc train station in Jessup that will take you to Union Station in Washington or Camden Yards in Baltimore. Check out this website for more information:

Living here without a card? EXTREMELY difficult. Columbia is a planned community and while a lot of things are close by, you will still need a car to ge around.

From driving through the area I don't see too many kids at these complexes but they are very nice, and the location is great for the Mall as was aleady pointed out.

Being without a car would be a hardship but not impossible. There is a local bus system that can get you to BWI Airport train station as well as elsewhere around town, see http://www.howardtransit.com/ for details.

From the BWI train station you can take trains to either Baltimore or Washington, and there is also bus service from Columbia to both cities.

The "hub" of the Howard County bus system is at the Columbia Mall which might make it a good option.

I grew up in Columbia, and can tell you the Columbia Assocation camps run by the town are very popular.

The town is rather unique in that many public recreation activities like golf, swimming, are managed through something called the Columbia Assocation.
