Can you be a little more specific? There's a lot of great places downtown, upscale to mid range. As far as being close to Marriott, we have a free trolley which goes all over downtown, so you can access all of them practically. My favorite restaurants are Proof on Main, Vincenzo's, Dish on Market, Harvest, Z's Fusion for starters. There's been several open in the NuLu are on Market that I havent even tried!

Hi there! Thanks for the response. We will be there for 6 days. Need average priced, local favorites for dinner nightly. Saturday night will most likely be our "fancy" night as a group, so I welcome those suggestions too. That is good to know about the free trolley :)

Take a look at the following.....

St. Charles Exchange. I haven't been, but it's getting good reviews. Prices are on the upscale end.

Decca. This would be one to save for the fancy night out. Prices on the upper end also. Live music on weekends & cool basement bar.

The Blind Pig (MEAT is the upstairs cocktail bar) - Not sure how close the trolley will get you to this restaurant.

Mayan Cafe - Farm-to-Table/Mayan inspired menu. A bit more moderately priced.

Bluegrass Brewing Co (aka BBC) - Moderately priced & more casual. Two downtown locations. Either Theatre Square (across from The Brown Hotel) or 300 W. Main St.

Patrick O'Shea's at 123 W. Main St. There are also several other restaurants in the "Whiskey Row" area. Casual & moderately priced.

Impellizzeri's (downtown location) - Casual pizza & pasta. Moderately priced. Downtown location at 110 W. Main St.

Garage Bar - Wood fired pizza (Impellizzeri's is the thicker style). Garage Bar also has some varied items like oysters & shrimp that you won't find at Impellizzeri's. Indoor/outdoor restaurant concept. Casual & moderately priced.

Market Place Restaurant at Theater Square - Prices are closer to St. Charles and/or Decca. Nice patio overlooking Theater Square. Across from the BBC on Theater Square if you wanted to try BBC for a moderately priced dinner and visit Market Place for drinks after.

The concierge at the Marriott should also be able to offer suggestions etc. I believe her name is "Leanne G."

Glad you didn't send her to the Bristol! Another thought for that special night is Rivue on top of the Galt House. The view is stunning!

Seagrover's list above is a solid one. Here are a few more that are certainly worth considering within trolley distance.

Rye on Market

Very good and well thought out menu with really great tasting food. Great atmosphere as well.

La Coop

Rustic french cuisine with trademark Louisville charm in a modern and intimate environment. Worth considering.

Doc Crows

Set in a historical whiskey row building that is really cool, Doc Crows offer a raw bar and great southern dishes in a really laid back environment.

From all the recommendations given, I would make sure to try and visit Harvest for dinner to get a real taste of local cuisine. I would also be sure to at least have a drink at Meat (above The Blind Pig) and dinner downstairs if you can. In addition, Doc Crows is a great place for a simple, inexensive lunch or dinner that is within walking distance. Also Make a trip to Toast for breakfast one day and a walkign distance lunch to Manny and Merle for some great tacos.

If you are in town for 6 days and really want a taste of great local food, try to get out of downtown for a few meals. Hammerheads, Guaca Mole, La Bodega, Varanese, and on and on. Lots of great food in this city.

I like Proof on Main, Mozz which has the best freshly made mozzarella cheese...so great. What else to try out....hill billy tea, very local not fancy but interesting restaurant.

I totally agreed with Seagrover. Leanne is the best concierge ever!!! I worked with her before actually, she knows every restaurants in town and I learned a lot from her. If you want to see her she normally work evening shift, you will be amazed.
