Embassy Suites Downtown

I'm looking for a place to stay in the middle of everything, reasonably priced. I came across Embassy Suites and it looks like it fits the bill. The favorable reviews on TripAdvisor are almost a year old. The more recent - not so good. Any thoughts from anyone familiar with the hotel and the downtown area?

The hotel is nearly perfectly positioned, immediately adjacent to the Circle Center Mall and just one block from the Convention Center, Hoosier Dome, and many of the great restaurants and sites in downtown Indy.

I haven't stayed at the Embassy Suites in years. The property is among the older in downtown Indy, but I don't know how they've kept up their rooms over the years or how their service is now. Four years ago they were excellent, and may well be. I've not heard anything bad about them (unlike a couple other hotels in the area) - so I tend to think they're likely a good place to consider.

Dave,

The most recent posts in the hotel review are unfavorable, so I'm a little hesitant. Anyone else out there been there recently?

While waiting for others to post about the Embassy Suites ...

Here are the places I consider to be "sure bets" in Indy:

The Conrad - the best hotel in the city.

The Hilton (Downtown) - very nice, consistent service & a very clean facility. An excellent hotel and good prices too.

Here are places I consider to be o.k. to good:

The Westin - a classic convention hotel. A great housekeeping staff and they've also kept the rooms up to date very nicely. Right next to the Convention Center/Hoosier Dome, and two block from the Circle Center Mall (and two blocks from the IMAX Theater/Zoo/Eiteljorg complex at White River State Park).

The Omni Severin - Just to the south of the Circle Center Mall - could use a renovation, but good service and location.

The Canterbury - Used to be THE place to stay in Indy, and still very luxurious - but showing a bit of wear around the edges. Primo location with great restaurants all around, and built into the side of the Circle Center Mall.

The Westin and Severin, and even the Hilton, are in roughly the same price range as the Embassy Suites. The Hilton in particular would be an easy call over the Embassy Suites.

ALL of these hotels are located conveniently close to the Convention Center, the Circle Center Mall, the bulk of the downtown restaurants, and only a short cab ride (or long walk) from the Mass Avenue pubs/restaurants/shops.

Is there a dueling piano bar downtown?

Even better than dueling pianos there is a great blues bar just south of the Homewood suites called the Slippery Noodle. Great live blues bands, great food and drinks at reasonable prices. I hate to use the term must do but it is not to be missed the bands usually start around 9, but get there a little early as it gets hard to get a good table. THere are two stages make your way to the back for the main stage area. Hope this helps.

We recently stayed at the Crown Plaza - it's connected to the train station and has hotel rooms in renovated box cars. It was a lot of fun. While it can be a little loud since it is a working train station, they give you a cute sleep package - relaxing cd and eye cover.

Yes the is a Nice Hampton. I believe it's at the corner of Meridian and maryland Street. As far as a duelig piano bar, I think Howl At The Moon is one. It's on Maryland or Georgia St a block or two east of Meridian St. Meridian is the main north/south street downtown
