Minimum layover time for connecting flights

I am looking at a flight that connects at O'hare with only 43 minutes between flights. Both are United flights, and the connection is on a Sunday afternoon (2:00 PM). No checked bags. Normally, would not try this, but wondering if this would be enough time since it is during a Sunday. Thanks in advance for any advice!

It could work if both are domestic

This question is asked a lot so you can search through the forum to see the previous answers. If they're both United flights, you'll be able to get between gates in 15-20 minutes at most so if the first flight is on time, you'll make the connection. However, O'Hare has a lot of delays so it really comes down to how much you care if you miss the connection compared to your other options like taking an earlier first flight or later second flight.

Sunday afternoon's can be busy. That won't help much. The best way to avoid delays is to take early flights. Not checking a bag helps. Getting a seat towards the front on the first flight helps, too.

To go with Dave's link, United uses both T1 and T2 for departures and T5 for international arrivals. T1 and T2 are connected behind security so you can walk between gates. Most domestic flights use T1. T2 is mostly the smaller regional jets, but you'd have to confirm which one your flight is using.

You're also assuming perfect weather too with the 43 minute connection. Any ground stop around ORD will blow the connection.

Like you said, you wouldn't normally do this, so you must travel enough to know better.

Is United selling you this ticket, or are you trying to piece together a couple one-ways on your own? If United is representing it as a valid connect time, go for it - - with the understanding that there's a real risk you'll get pushed to a later flight out of O'Hare.

In general, whether or not the airlines sell a flight as a valid connection makes little difference in the real world. The consider it a valid connection if you can make the flight if everything goes perfectly. Things don't go perfectly, especially at a big hub like ORD. Delays happen a lot. A valid connection should be thought of as the best case circumstance. If missing the connection will cause problems, then you need to leave more than what the airline considers valid.

This all depends. First remember United typically adds 30 minutes to the flight time so they can pad their statistics. It also depends on where you sit. If you are in the rear of the plane it could take 15-20 minutes to get off the plane. If you take a small plane (this is becoming more common with United) your carry-on may not fit in the overhead and you will have to wait 5-10 minutes for them to bring your bag. Getting from one gate to another should be a problem, if you don't dilly dally and make stops there is absolutely no reason why you can't make it from the farthest gate in T2 to the farthest gate in T1. There are a lot of people movers so you don't even have to walk that fast. All this being said I would want and hour between flights.

a lot of United'd international flights including flights from Lufthansa all fly out of T1&T2. You usually only land in T5 flying a US carrier. You will use T5 if you are flying a foreign carrier.
