Vero Beach, FL weather in October

We're thinking of celebrating our 15th anniversary in Vero Beach, Florida. My only hesitation is that it might be too cool for outdoor/water activities. Locals, is it still warm enough in mid-October for meaningful time at the beach which naturally, would include a dip in the water?

The National Weather Service has useful climate graphs here. Go to the year-to-date links at the bottom of the page:

This chart, showing Vero Beach for the year 2011, shows that October was cool, with two cold snaps bringing low temperatures of 60 and about 52 degrees (with a high temperature of only 70). Average high temperatures decline during the month from about 85 to 80.

I don't have anything quite as useful for surf temperature, which will be declining. This toggle-animation of sea surface temperature can be helpful:

By the end of the month, water temperature might be down to the high 70s.
