Vero Beach Oceanfront Shopping

Hi! We are going to be in Vero Beach next week and I found oceanfront shopping on the Vero Beach website. Is this worth it? Are the shops expensive? Is it something we should do at night or during the day? Thanks!

Most of the shops in The Villages (north Vero Beach oceanside) are very high end. There is a short section of shops near Humiston park that are nice and tho a little pricey they have sale items and are cute shops to explore. I am not sure how late they stay open. Maybe bluerusso can answer that one. We used to go during the day and combine it with lunch at one of the little places near there.

Ocean Drive (and Cardinal, the first street inland from Ocean) has lots of shopping from roughly Humiston Park north to about the Vero Beach Hotel and Spa. The clothing stores tend to be high-end, although one of the long-time successes, The Beach Shop, has opened a second store on the mainland (Miracle Mile). Likewise, Kemps's a popular women's shoe store, has an outlet, also on Miracle Mile.

On Cardinal, the shopping seems clustered at the south end with Laughing Dog craft gallery, clothing, stationery.

There's ample opportunities for lunch, ranging from Casey's sandwich stand next to the post office to sit-down service.

There is also a regular mall and an outlet mall on the west side of Vero near I-95. Downtown area has some antique shops that are interesting too.

The outlet mall has struggled for years and is showing some signs of life (Brooks Brothers, for example). The shopping mall on State Road 60 west of town is rather limited in its offerings. Pennys, Dillards, Macys, Sears. Target and Walmart are nearby, as is Bealls, a popular low-cost Florida clothing store.

The beach shopping is only open until 5pm and closed on Sundays. You may find a few shops open later, like the beached whale and shells and things. I would plan the shopping around ice cream or lunch. Wilkins has the best ice cream on the beach, cravings gives you about a golf ball size that they actually call a scoop! Waldos is fun for lunch with ocean views, as well as some of the area hotels dining areas along the beach, At the shops, any item full price will be expensive, but there are always sale racks and mark downs. The beach shop on the corner of ocean and beachland, go upstairs for all the sale merchandise, the beach shop over on miracle mile is very expensive, and rarely has any sales. You can get through all the shops in a day on the beachfront. Skip the outlet mall, unless you want to drive about 20 minutes west of the beach area. Happy shopping!
