tampa cashless tolls-no way to pay in cash

Just a heads up. Got a credit card charge from rental car company over a month after returning a rental car in FL. Turns out in Tampa on the Selmon Crosstown Expressway, there is now NO way to pay cash for the toll. If you don't have a transponder or a "we bill you" account set up (which I don't believe is possible in a rental situation), your license plate is photographed and the bill sent along to the rental company. (The charge from the rental car company was the $1.50 toll plus a $25 fee) This was assuredly NOT explained to us when renting the car and NOT clearly marked on the expressway.

The Thrify rep said that all of FL is going cashless tolls in the near future. Will have to figure out what to do when next visit to FL comes along.

The only cashless toll is in the Miami area on the last 47 miles of the Turnpike. You are likely to use this in the Marathon to Miami part of your trip. It is also easy to avoid using the Turnpike here if you can read a map - of course it will be a little slower route.

No tolls at all if you take I-75 from Tampa to go to AMI. But if you take the scenic route over the Sunshine Skyway bridge there is a toll that takes cash.

If you're using a GPS it might try to direct you to go over the Selmon Expressway - this one is cashless. But going this route is taking you out of your way for your destination. But GPS' are known for doing this.

And there are no cashless tolls from MCO to the Hard Rock Casino? Have checked the maps and reckon I am ok?

There are a couple of cash tolls as you leave MCO but even that you can avoid if you can read a paper map, which the car rental company can provide and the agent will even show you which roads to take out of the airport. Once you get on I-4 it's plain sailing - no tolls on I-4 - barring any accidents, on the way to the Hard Rock casino which is on the East side of Tampa so you don't even have to go through Tampa.

Good luck at the casino.

Manatee, in future bettter to make your own new post than bring an old one up.

Where in tampa will you be going? the only non cash road in that area, is the Selmon expressway that goes E-W in tampa but is used by commuters and not tourists. You can take the I4 to the I275S and not hit any toll roads at all.

Will there be a cashless toll if I travel from TPA to Clearwater Beach? It does not look like it, but I want to make sure. Thanks!

Tennisplyr, as long as you don't mistakenly get on the Selmon Expressway. It isn't necessary to use this road to go to Clearwater Beach although if you use a GPS you might find yourself on it.
