One meal in Sarasota

Hi all.

I travel to Sarasota regurlarly as we have a vacation home there.

I am almost always with my wife we have the usual places "we" like to frequent

Owen's and Nancy BBQ are staples of our visits.

My question is- i have one meal by myself before my wifes gets into town. Either breakfast or lunch. I want it to be something downhome and delicious. I dont want to worry about whether it has cloth napkins or fresh flowers. I just want some old fashioned good eats. Maybe a chicken fried steak somewhere for breakfast or a mess of some great fried chicken.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

If you don't care about ambiance, try the Texaco Station on Fruitville:

There is also Yoders Restaurant on Bahia Vista (overrated fried chicken in my opinion, but very popular) and if you want southern, greasy and spicy, there is a Popeye's in downtown Sarasota.

There are others in Bradenton/Ellenton.

I was going to suggest Yoder's too, but If I eat out B4 hubby get's there, I like casual on the water.

Something like Old Salty Dog.

The best in the area is the Texaco station on Fruitville.

The Sun Garden on Siesta Key has chicken fried steak with gravy.

Lee Roy Selmon's has down home cooking. Cooper Creek Blvd.

I take it we are moving off the fried chicken/breakfast thread.

What do you and your wife enjoy?

price range?

Lots of options..since you've been here before, other than Owens Fish Camp and Nancy's, what types of foods?

There is a new Chinese place on the North Trail called the Yummy House..very good.

I think the Texaco will satisfy my fried chicken craving

maybe i shoiuld start a new thread but ..

We will try pretty much everything- looking for something casual-like Owens-

for our fancy fix this trip we plan on going to Bern's in Tampa

a decent place with a view would be great. We have done Marina Jacks it was ok. We did the other restaurant they have upstairs for brunch and that was nice

Any thoughts on Dry Dock in Longboat?

Drydock is a great pick..you can sit outside...good selection of fish etc. (Marina Jacks has a good view..food is mediocre)

You don't have to go to Tampa for an upscale meal...

I enjoy the Beach Bistro on Anna Maria Island. 5 star and on the water. not inexpensive

Some expensive and not so expensive places:

Eat Here

Darwins on 4th

Euphemia Haye

Michaels on East

Half Shell Oyster House

Bijou Cafe

Miguel's

Libby's Cafe

Ophelias on the Bay

Flemings (a chain, but good, I just reviewed it)

Hyde Park Steak House

Star Fish Company (in Cortez, great fish, casual)

Lazy Lobster

Capt. Brians

Crow's Nest (Venice)

Casey Key Fish House (Osprey) fun place on the water

Toasted Mango Cafe

this should keep you busy for awhile..there are more...
