Arriving next weekend and wanted to get some lobster tails to eat our 1st night in cottage. Any suggestions of best place to go. Thanks.

From the way you phrased the question, I assume you wish to eat them at the cottage, not a restaurant.

On your way in, stop at Prawnbroker's on McGregor Blvd. They are the parent restaurant of Timber's on Sanibel. They have Maine lobster flown in for Friday specials. They might have them at Timber's as well. You can call ahead to either and see if they'll cook and chill them for you to take away. If you want, both are also restaurants.

Give The Sandy Butler a call. It's on San Carlos Blvd, a short detour toward Ft Myers Beach. Great quality. The have a restaurant and gourmet shop.

Jerry's on Sanibel has a fresh fish department that should have Maine lobsters and will usually cook them for you. Right now, Maine lobster is pretty cheap, but you're a long way away, so transport of live lobster is costly and affects price paid. I can honestly say the best place for lobster is a picnic table on a wharf in Maine where the lobstermen dock and some shack cooks them to perfection. A taste that cannot be duplicated. Not to mention fighting off the stupid seagulls. LOL

If you want traditional lobster tails, they are from rock lobsters and available frozen in supermarkets like Publix, just before the causeway, or Jerry's and Bailey's on Sanibel.

Don't forget to buy the lemons for hands to get the lobster smell off. Eating them is fun and messy.

Just in case you want a restaurant:

At a restaurant, Sanibel Steakhouse offers twin Maine lobster tails for about $40/pp. You can make a reservation on line. It's a 'white tablecloth' place, but not dressy, just not tee and flip-flops, more Tommy Bahama wild print and deck shoes. Olde Captiva House at Tween Waters Inn does a Caribbean one about the same price. Great place, fine food, with views of the sunset. Reservation recommended. (I think it a better place). Similar dress to the Steakhouse.

Beach Seafood Market

1100 Shrimp Boat Ln, Fort Myers Beach, FL 33931

Every time we go to the west coast we always stop here for fresh sea food...the very best.
