Good Afternoon!!

So I have great news, and not so great news for my fellow Sanibel lovers. First the good, there is a good chance that this storm is going to be straight up Florida (as in the middle). Now the bad, to anyone who has years of experience, should I put the family vacation on hold? We're flying in Sunday and will be down for a week.

That's the most recent link I can find to the projected path of hurricane (tropical storm today) Fay. I keep reassuring my wife that a storm comes close to Sanibel statistically every 20 years, with major damage produced every 40.

Seeing that North Captiva was hit pretty bad less than 4 years back, does anyone have any feeling on this on the local level?? Mainly should I cancel my vacation, or is going to be a bunch of wind and rain if anything at all?

I of course put in this post that I am by no way a weather expert, nor is anyone on this blog, just looking for some honest advice. As always, thank you for the help, have a great Friday!!

I hope you are right. The latest info on the hurricane pages I use have the path beginning to shift more to the right (East) and some predict landfall over the Everglades then up the straight with a slight curve to the East. Reminds me of a hurricane that did the same thing several years back. Problem is, people don't always prepare for the worst and hopr for the best. Saw that with Wilma, lots of people said "I didn't think it was going to be that bad/hit that close/etc". This will be the 12th hurricane I've been in (not all, but most, in Florida). I don't panic or get overworked, but I DO get prepared. It's the period after that can be miserable if you're not prepared.

HI, Just came across your post. My family and I are scheduled to come to sanibel on Monday, I just dont know what to do. I have never been in florida during a tropical storm or hurricane. I guess I will stayed glued to the forecast. Good luck to you

ive been going to Sanibel since i was 1 :)

i love it there

my parents own a condo there

i dont know when exactly you posted this but if you went to Sanibel thats awesome you should never cancel a trip just because of a little rain unless you know that it could be too dangerous (like to the point where they would have to exacuate)

I was there when Hurricane Dennis hit

me n my friends that i know down there were in the Gulf during the storm call us CRAZY but you only live once

well again if you went i hope you had fun

if not theres always next time :)
