San Marco Inn will close to make way for Doubletree

Undergoing renovations and scheduled to open June 2014.

Thoughts on location of the new DT? I am a HHonors member always looking for a place to stay in Saint Augustine. I usually stay at the Hampton Inn - St. Augustine Beach but would love a new moderately priced hotel within walking distance of the Historic District and the Hilton Bayfront is usually too pricey for me.

It is a great location right on San Marco but the price will probably not be moderate. Like most St. Augustine accomodations, you will find the prices to be moderate Sunday thru Thursdays. Weekends are much higher.

I don't think there is anything wrong with having the chains on US 1, but the whole character of the downtown area is going to get ruined if they keep putting up the chain hotels. I have some fond memories of the pub that used to be on the site where the Hilton is located.

I agree with the above: Moderately priced chain = Sunday-Thursday.
