Creston House location

We have found a nice price on a 2 bedroom condo at the Creston House on Crescent Beach, but we are not sure what, if anything, is near that area. Does anyone know if there are any restaurants within walking distance? Also, is it a nice, clean stretch of beach in that area or should we stay on St Augustine beach instead? I just can't seem to find much info on the area.

Casa Benedetto's is about a mile down the road (from the rental ofice anyway), and there appears to be aBBQ joint across the road. Benedettos has good reviews, but mostly out of towners who haven't seen the health department's report. Hopefully they've cleaned up their operation.

As an aside, that BBQ place (Haszard's Open Pit Beef at the Beach) has wonderful Maryland style crab cakes and a pretty good crab chowder too. This is pretty unusual for a BBQ joint, but the couple that own the place are from Maryland and make their specialty (crab cakes) amid all the BBQ.

I will check them both out. Crab cakes and crab chowder sound really good!

Thank you both!

Napoli's Pizza, South Beach Grill, are very close. A smoky hole in the wall cash only bar: The Sandbar

can be fun. The Oasis is maybe two miles north. Live music every night upstairs and good food. A little farther North is A1A Beach Rd. (a right at the Alvin's) lots of restaurants and bars. It won't take you long to get downtown, either. The beach is gorgeous. Have fun!

Also further North is The Purple Olive....very good food there in the strip mall with seafoood kitchen and hurricane wings---browse the titles in the used book store next door while you wait...if you have to wait...

Thank you djaaay and capnconrad! We have never been to St Augustine and the whole family is excited. So much history and many things to do, plus relaxing on the beach. Can't wait!

Thanks again for everyone's suggestions.

I sure will!

If anyone has anything that is a must see/must do please let me know. We are traveling with a 7 and 16 year old, which is a little tough with that age gap.

What we are thinking, besides beach time and wandering around the Historic Downtown area, are the following:

Castillo de San Marcos

Fort Matanzas

Pirate Museum

Colonial Quarter

Sheriff's ghost walk

Red Train trolley

Black Raven Pirate Ship

Anything else?

Beach in front of the Creston house is fine - more laid back than St. Augustine Beach. Same wide flat white sand.

You can walk to South beach Grill which sits nicely in the dunes. Bar with a great view but the food is so -so.

Drive 13 miles (16 minutes) to JT's:

You are staying only a couple miles from Fort Matnzas - take in the film at the welcome center and take the boat across to the fort (if you want to spend that much time).

Just drive to downtown St. Augustine and start wandering the walking area (St. George St.). It will come to you while wandering around what you want to do.
