Anybody have any suggestions on how to keep a timeshare... |
|
We are going to Orlando in May and are scheduled for a timeshare presentation at Silver Lake Resort. Anybody have any suggestions on how to keep the presentation to 90 min. I have only been on one other timeshare presentaion and it was a nightmare. The rate we recieved was through Florida Discount Lodging. It was $260 for 7 nights at Silver Lake Resort, but we have to go to the timeshare. What if my husband goes without me. I need suggestions on how to get the heck out of there in 90 min. Do you just tell them at 90 min. your not interested? Report as inappropriate |

We were very firm all the way through. It doesn't appeal to us, we are not interested. We didn't flinch. He gave up. If you have kids, be sure they get to miniture golf instead of sticking them in the crowded game room. Be firm: it works. Report as inappropriate

Tell them right up front that the only reason you agreed to the presentation was to get the room rate.If you say you are in no position to buy (say you are about to lose your job, your over extended on your credit cards, contemplating divorce or whatever you can come up with),and that there is zero chance of his making a sale,he might let you off the hook in less than 90 min.If not,set your watch and get up after 90 min.Try to make your apointment as late in the week as possible.I am sure that you both will have to attend. The resort is beautiful and well worth $260 and an hour and a half of your time!Dont worry about it.You will not be the first couple they have encountered who have not interest in buying. Is there any reason that you say to make presentation late in the week? They said to me that we have to attend the presentation our first full day there. Will they treat us bad? Report as inappropriate

I dont think you would be treated differently after you say no,but if there are any problems with your room after the presentation you would probably not be put first on the maintenence list.If they already said you must attend your first full day, than go and get it over with.Again, the vast majority of people they see have no intention of buying,so dont feel as though your doing something unethical.I know people who make time share presentations a sport, just to take advantage of the discounted rooms, tickets ,breakfasts, cash etc.....have fun. I went to one at the Marriot resort, you just have to be firm, they do use the hard sell but just tell them and they understand - eventually! Report as inappropriate

I've been thru several, and actually bought at Disney. You need to be careful because if they deem you didn't meet your obligation they can charge you the real rate of the accomadations, usually found in the fine print and expensive. They're not going to ask you to buy until they've gone thru their presentation, and because of this you may not get a chance to say no until the end. Do as indicated above drop hints that you never buy without sleeping on it (they'll say you have x days to change your mind). They usually meet you, the salesman, you and spouse. They try to build rapport and make you relax. Then they usually show a video or tour a unit for sale, and then you go to the closing room. Hilton put us in a room by ourselves, Vistana put us in a room with several little tables that salesman were hammering the guests. If you give them the idea that you are interested and can afford it, it may take some time to get out. I always tell them I and my wife are salesmen also and they seem to give up easier (?). I always wanted to use the line "as soon as I see how my bankruptcy turns out, or as soon as I appear in court and find out how that's going to turn out" but I've never had the guts. Remember they have a process that they will follow, and as soon as you get thru it and say no the quicker you get out. Report as inappropriate

Have to agree with those above who advise to be firm and don't give any indication that you would even remotely consider buying. If you leave the slightest opening they'll keep hammering you trying to get you to change your mind by offering bi-annual, floating and other options. Also, with regard to just having your spouse attend, keep in mind that most that I have been to require that if you are married, both husband and wife must be present. I have had some salespeople who were not pushy at all, but more often have found them to be overbearing. Stand your ground if you have no interest and they will eventually get the message. The other suggestions are fine, but remember, the timeshare sales representatives are just doing there jobs and their job is to sell you a timeshare. It is assumed that you have "some" interest if you have accepted the resorts invitation to the discounted accomodations. If you really want to guarantee keeping it to 90 minutes and you really have no interest in purchasing a timeshare, I would suggest you simply don't accept the inviation to go in the first place. I have seen too many times where the presentation extends longer than 90 minutes that due to the tour of the grounds and the general converations that go on. Report as inappropriate
