Nearly time, a few questions..

Arriving on 22nd, for 3 days which we may extend to five days, staying at the Cove Inn.

1) Being from Scotland, I am used to rain! What can we expect, just a few heavy showers per day, or continuous (like here!)

2) Plan trips to Marco island, FM Beach and Sanibel possibly, anywhere else within a few hours that I should do?

Arriving from Miami and will have a look at the Everglades on the way.

3) Areas for bars/restaurants within walking distance of the Cove Inn? I have heard about Tin City. The car will be getting dumped, so walking or taxi.

Thanks for any advice and we are really looking forward to our first visit to Naples, will report back!

1. Re: Nearly time, a few questions..

1) Usually rain in the later afternoons, not all day long. Still should get plenty of sun!

2) The best shelling in FL is on Sanibel, and it's not too far. If you like Tin City, you may want to look into Fisherman's Village in Port Charlotte. Maybe an hour+ drive. www.fishville.com

3) There is a fun tiki bar at the Cove. And, a restaurant at each end of the property. The Dock at Crayton Cove is a casual, and fun place and is an easy walk. Tin City is walkable from the Cove, but it would be quite a hike, 25-30 minutes or so? Very short cab ride.

Shopping along 5th Avenue in Naples. Mostly upscale, high end botique type places if that is of interest.

Loads of places in to eat/drink on 5th and 3 Ave, not all pricey but good value and great food, Taxi's aren't expensive !! Some places can get booked up some worth making a reservation ie Tommy Bahama's Loads of great shopping, and I know it's a chain but we love The Cheesecake Factory, it's not a chain to us as we don't have them over here lol, Happy hours are really good value and if you like wine the choice is excellent. Enjoy your holiday, hope you get to see the Dolphins at the pier and a Naples sunset.

Corkscrew Swamp is a nice place to visit, though a bit out of the way. Might be a bit buggy though, like the Everglades.

The Botanical Gardens in Naples

Naples Zoo (has nice Gardens)

Miramar Outlets if you like shopping.

Lots of restaurants/bars within walking distance.

Closest is Dock at Crayton Cove which is next door to Cove Inn. Across the street is Bleu Provence. The Boathouse is just across the parking lot from Cove Inn.

Six blocks west (going towards the Gulf of Mexico) is Third Street South where you will find multiple restaurants and bars - Sea Salt, Tommy Bahama, Handsome Harry's, Campiello, Tony's on Third.

Six blocks north of Cove Inn is 5th Avenue South where you will find Mangrove Cafe, Pazzo, Chops, Cafe Lurcat, Bice, Vergina, Yabba, Aqua, Sushi Thai Too, Cafe Luna, Jolly Cricket, Starbucks, Bistro 821...and that is just a few of the restaurants you will find in the immediate area.

Why not keep the car? It gives you a lot more flexibility, and not too hard to get around. Naples is not a compact city.

I think the OP will be keeping the car - when he says 'dumped' he means for the evening - he will use taxis so they can have a drink or two.

Great choice, been staying sa the Cove Inn, 13years. Just got back , leaving on the 8/13, for a return visit.. Great staff, rooms, pool. There are plenty of supermarkets, Publix, Trader Joes, Whole foods, we keep or room well stocked... Save alot by doing this... We go to the Boathouse, happy hour drinks, walk to third st, or fifth, plenty to pick from. Ask at the front desk, say Rose, on tripadvisor, Frederick, or Portia, Phil will guide you, have a wonderful stay!!!!!!

We rented the last two years a few blocks from the Cove. No need for taxi's for any of the local restaurants. We walked to 3rd Street, 5th Avenue, Tin City and of course the Dock area.
