Surf comber or the National?

It's our first trip to Miami, celebrating my 40th birthday. Prices for both are about what we want to spend. Looking for great beach with service, pool , location is key. We are going to experience nightlife, so walking distance is key. Any input? Or other hotel with nice social scene I should consider?

A few years ago I would have given a different answer, but today I recommend the Surfcomber between the two. The National has been slipping of late, though the pool is lovely. Location wise they are nearly identical (both excellent, on the beach, very walkable), but for ambience, service, room quality, go with Surfcomber.

Other very comparable hotels you can consider include Shore Club, Sagamore, Delano, James Royal Palm... and probably several others.

Definitely the Surfcomber. The National did a renovation recently, but it wasn't a very good one, IMO.

Surfcomber also has a free nightly wine hour, which is a nice bonus.
