Marriot Stanton, Mango's, Prime 112 vs. Capital Grille

We're headed to South Beach for the first time in August to celebrate my boyfriend's 25th birthday. We'll be there for 3 nights and I have spent the last two weeks researching hotels. Every time I think I've picked one, another review comes along and changes my mind. We are currently booked at the Marriot Stanton. Is that super far from everything else that is South Beach or is it walkable? The rooms are renovated and the bathrooms are super nice which is very important to me. I'm looking to spend no more than $1200 for a room for all 3 nights. We don't want to be somewhere that is super small or super quiet. We get a Marriot discount so that's why we are booked there now. My other options are Loew's and Z Ocean. Any input/suggestions?

Also, I keep reading mixed reviews about Mango's. Any thoughts? We are looking for something fun to do and will be visiting King of Diamonds one night. I found Mango's in my search though. Is it a complete rip off?

Last question - my bf is a steak lover. I really wanted to go to STK but I know that the Miami location is closed. Any recommendations on steakhouses? So far, I'm reading terrible reviews about customer service Prime 112 so I'm leaning towards Capital Grille. Is the crappy service at Prime 112 worth the really great steak that they may have? Any place with amazing ribeyes would be perfect. Pricing for the birthday dinner doesn't matter, we just want great steaks! Thanks!

Hi Victoria,

You're on the right track. The Marriott at 2nd and Ocean is a great choice. Right on the beach and close to fun things to do.

The Loews can be a little too KID centric and the Z Ocean is a nice spot across the street from the sea with some rooms offering private jacuzzis on the terrace or - if you book a roof suite - on the roof!!! If that fits your budget & you think your BF would like a little fun in the sun on the roof with you... well, give that a look:

zoceanhotelsouthbeach.com/suites/…

Mango's is a goofy Latin bar with live music and dancers. You can readily stop in for a mojito and see if you like it enough to stay. It is very close to the hotel. Not a rip off - just a goofy bar.

King of Diamonds requires a rental car b/c it is very far away from the hotel. Otherwise you might pay for a limo... up to you.

As to the steak dinner - easily done nearer to the hotel than Capital Grill. I'd give a quick look at the RED steakhouse or BLT Steak websites for starters and also Meat Market on Lincoln Rd.

Other spots near yr hotel to check out - Tongue & Cheek on Washington, Monty's at the Marina for sunset drinks, Fratelli la Bufala or The Local House for lunch, plus Radio Bar and Room Bar for drinks.

One more quick question! I'm looking at getting a car service since King of Diamonds is so far and we don't want to drive. Any recommendations on car/limo services? Since we'll be there Thursday-Sunday, is there a better night to go to KOD and are there any other club/bar recommendations? We like R&B/Hip Hop if that makes a difference.

Most clubs in Miami announce their performers about a week in advance. Better to wait to decide where to go each night until then...

http://officialkod.com/club-info/

I checked the site to see what they posted and found this:

Monday: Monday Night Fight Night

Tuesday: Trustory Tuesdays

Wednesday: RODEO Wednesdays

Thursday: Make it Rain Thursday

Friday: Customer Appreciation

Saturday: Playboy Saturdays

Sunday: Industry Music Night

For club listings - a week in advance - check wantickets.com to see who will be in town.

Before your visit (maybe a week) check the KOD website to see what events/performers are scheduled. The concierge at your hotel can hook you up with a limo and you can also do some shopping for limo prices online so you know what to expect to pay. We also have UBER and LYFT now.

If you want to plan a SURPRISE NIGHT for your BF - KOD is about 20 minutes away from the Seminole Hard Rock Casino so if your BF might like gambling or seeing a show or visiting the clubs that surround the casino, you could do both in the same night - perhaps have dinner at the casino then limo to the KOD afterward (most clubs get going around midnight) and then limo back to the hotel. You can contact the concierge at the casino to talk about organizing a limo pick up on SoBe to take you to the casino and back to see how that price compares - (954) 327-7673

I will definitely let you know how it works out! Any reviews on Benihana's? All of the reviews I read talk about the crappy service and that's where we were planning to go for dinner on Thursday night. I know it's a little bit of a drive. Boyfriend loves the hibachi show/experience so I wanted to do that on his actual birthday night. Any recommendations for any better/closer hibachi restaurants? Thanks for all of your help AG!

Benihana is fun for a birthday but if you want to try something more "Miami" - take him to 3rd and Alton Road to Texas de Brazil where he can eat ALL the steak he can eat at a cool spot by the water. (happy hr weeknights 5-7pm)

texasdebrazil.com/locations/…

The gaucho waiters bring all these freshly grilled meats to the table over and over until you tell them to stop. If you log onto the website and register in advance you may get a birthday card w/ discount.

Thanks! I was looking at the restaurant but he's a picky eater so I was little worried. I don't that Brazillian steakhouses don't have traditional sides and he's not a "try new foods" kind of guy lol

It is mostly a lot of meat (which is not new) and a huuuuge salad bar with many choices (salad is pretty familiar). I think if he likes the chop chop chop of Benihana you should go there!! But this place isn't anything weird or foreign - if he likes grilled steak he'll be happy.

One other thing - this link shows the cool waterside tables at Smith & Wollensky which is a steak place right by your hotel (quick walk) so you might also take him for steak and an AMAZING view.

Smith & Wollensky great happy hours and awesome view plus good meat....agree with Meat Market as well--my fave steak place. I like Red's, but found it very expensive.

You might also consider SET and Story (close to your hotel) for night clubs and SLS Hyde Hotel weekend pool parties and bar/clubbing at night.
