help with clothes packing- miami downtown

Will be there earlyApril and wonder whether 3days is enough to do it properly.

also, which place is better to stay in? I've heard that miami city itself may not be 'safe' for tourists and in the past not advised but do not know whether things have improved since.

what should I wear/bring?

Miami is the city. Miami Beach is the seaside. Which do you prefer?

South Beach can be compared to some of the seaside towns in the south of France. Older Art Deco buildings from the 1920s and 30s, cafes and bars - shopping, dining, nightclubs, walking around all day and night. Very casual and warm in April.

Miami Downtown at night is very quiet. The city is a business center by day but not very residential at night. If you are not visiting for a cruise or a business related trip, you might be happier on South Beach, Coconut Grove, Key Biscayne or another beach town...

Clothing in April should be cool - cotton, casual. It will be 75-85 degrees F.

The nightlife in Brickell, the southern portion of downtown, is much better than in the Business District of northern downtown. Still, though, South Beach is the place to be for the nightlife. The only places that aren't safe still are Overtown and Liberty City, areas to the northwest of downtown. Most areas have dramatically improved in terms of crime levels lately. If you want a "big city feel", then stay on Brickell. There are a few hotels in tall towers where it can feel more like New York or something rather than Miami. The beach is more of a party atmosphere, but also gives you the seaside/tropical atmosphere.

In early April, high temperatures average around 80 degrees and lows average around 65 degrees. It can be as hot as 85/88 and as low as 45/50. Usually it's warm during the day and mild to cool at night. The city proper (on the mainland) usually is hotter in the day and cooler at night, and the beach does not see as much temperature fluxuation between day and night.
