Question about Star Island..... |
|
I'm seeing Star Island on the map, just off the MacArthur Cswy, and reading that you can see all the star's homes there. I'm wondering if one can drive onto this island or is it only able to be viewed by the sightseeing boats? We're renting a car for this weekend, upon our arrival into FLL, and we're trying to map out all the things we'd like to do. Also Palm Island and Hibiscus Island.....same thing? What are these little islands all about?? Thanks :) |

Rexy> Welcome to South Florida. The interesting thing folks do not know about these "star islands" is that - generally speaking - they are accessible by rental car. You will stop at a guard gate and get the eyeball. Smile and be friendly. Tell the guards you are tourists who are sightseeing and they may ask for ID or simply look you over, walk around your car and write down the license plate number. As long as you do not appear to be "in league with the terrorists," [and I am joking here] - they will tell you that the ROAD is public and all else is private. You can drive on the road and have a looksee, but you may not enter any property, any driveway or grassy area. It's a case of LOOK but don't TOUCH. There are indeed cameras everywhere - both public and private security... so do not take the ban on snooping lightly. To be honest, the Miami Beach Duck Tours or any of the water craft leaving from Bayside in Miami take you behind the homes to see the lavish pool areas and yachts... The street side is often obscured by a wall, a hedge and an electric gate. If you want to see Star Island - Shaq lives there, Rosie owns a house - Lenny Kravitz & Gloria Estefan too. Palm/Hibiscus are connected and Al Capone's Miami mansion is there... North Bay Road has the Bee Gees homes, the former homes of JLo (during the Bennifer years), Ricky Martin, Calvin Klein, Hulk Hogan, Billy Joel, Matt Damon... Lenny Kravitz had a great house on Biscayne Point. Copy and paste this link into your browser for a GOOGLE map: Enjoy... AG

Very informative....thank you so much. We're planning on doing a boat tour as well, so I guess we'll see the homes one way or another. We're thrilled to be going to Miami.....we're counting down the days!!! Hope the weather's nice and HOT........... it's snowing here.

We have done both. You won't see much driving around Star Island and the others, but it is still very pleasant to admire such a beautiful neighborhood. The boat tour gives a much better sight of the homes because nothing is hiding the mansions. Have a great time !
